One big disadvantage to being an International programming subscriber is that Direct won't allow you to change programming online, anymore. We can no longer view "specials" that are offered to regular subscribers. We can't add any of the "premium or sports" packages. Instead we have to telephone to make all changes.

They post the following:

It's the same for the customers with grandfathered packages. Obviously, DirecTV is one of the few companies that wants to dissuade its customers from using online tools. Perhaps they're worried about their CSRs getting bored?

Yup, same for me since I have a grandfathered package.

Actually Directv is not dissuading people from using online tools, they are trying to get people to move up to their current offerings (at least with the grandfathered packages)

Directv's online system is pretty robust compared to many out there.

On the contrary it's don't let someone do something that can cause them to call in and complain that something happened because they didn't see all the changes happening.

I will mention that I am still under a grandfathered package (TC+) and was able to add HD Xtra online without any problems.

They're talking about channels imported to the US from abroad. DirecTV has a suite of channels from china, the philipines, etc available currently from 95w to US subscribers.

There is a separate DirecTV division for Latin America subscribers, and their website is www.directvla.com but the services are a bit different.

International is for customers in the US who want to watch programming from another country.
examples are
Spanish programming which comes from Central and South America
Programming from Russia, Vietnam, Korea, and other countries

i know dtv latin america is now sky tv since murdock didn`t want to compete with himself when he bought dtv.i`m wondering about the nfl package in mexico.my friend in costa rica only pays $100 u.s. for it.anyone know where i can get more info?
