yawn, another swanni article. and he is wrong again, dtv is still running espn 3d full-time. can this man ever get his facts straight?

I think the problem is twofold:

1) Not enough programming.
2) Not enough interest to make the programming.

3D will probably continue to evolve over time, and at some point in time all TV's sold will have 3D by default, it is just a "standard option". Personally I think DirecTV did the right thing by jumping on the 3D thing, but they might have jumped on it too soon. There certainly is no need for NEW 3D channels at this moment.

They will be broadcasting Olympics in 3D (Panasonic partners with NBC), but is going to be tape-delayed 24 hours, so I am not sure if it is worth it.

3D TV will never be popular with the masses until someone develops a good no-glasses technology, IMO.

I don't have any problem with the passive glasses at all, they're dirt cheap and very light and comfortable. I wouldn't want to watch 3D all the time, it doesn't do much for most programming. Some movies that were shot in 3D are a lot of fun to watch but I do think it will always be a niche market and not the way people watch TV. I do enjoy it a lot but in small doses.

i think that for a while this might be a case of the chicken and the egg as it might take 3d a while to catch on hopefully espn will so mnf in 3d this year.

I don't know about Swanni's prediction, but The Evening Bridge had this one-liner:

A simply method to see the state of 3D is to monitor commercials for it.

It has gone from dozens a day to maybe a few a week.

I think quite a few of the households with a 3D set actually have no interest in 3D.

I'm no Swanni, but I felt 3D was going to be a huge flop from the get go. They simply tried to push it on us far too soon. When it was introduced less than 50% of American's had switched over to HD. For those of us that had made the upgrade to HD, the joy of seeing movies, sports, etc., like never before was enough to keep us going for years. It was ridiculous to think we would immediately turn around a repurchase far more expensive equipment while still being in the bliss of the newly discovered HD. And then there's the matter of a very poor economy, mixed with the SD masses that had yet to even make the move to HD. They weren't about to drop a bunch of money on 3D technology when they hadn't even bothered with HD yet. And what's the protocol: Am I supposed to supply 3D glasses for my guests, or are they supposed to bring their own?

Yup, that's us. I sold off the 2 extra pair of "free" 3D glasses 2 weeks after I got the set. Kept 1pr "just in case" but haven't used it in over 15 months (which was 14 months and 2 weeks from when I got the set). :lol:

We got the set for it's top 2D ratings, it just happened to have 3D. Saw 1 flick in 3D in the theaters and found it terribly annoying.

I said this elsewhere. I watched part of the big east tournament in 3D. We had just bought the set then. But once you've seen it in 3D, you've seen it. I didn't feel like "oh I HAVE to have this in 3D from now on or it will suck!" like I did with HD. It doesn't help that in my case when I'd leave the 3D channel id have to turn the 3D off to see the other channels and then back on along with turning the glasses on when I went back to it. I know not everyone's is like this but mine were.

I have a 3D set, but hardly use the 3D because the content I most want isn't in 3D yet.

I'm not a fan of movies, so 3D movies don't do anything for me, and I'm not a sports fan so no interest in 3D there.

What I am a fan of is scripted TV, so when cable dramas start airing in 3D is when I will
start caring. I like 3D, just don't like the content that is being offered in 3D.

There was a short news report tonight about a couple having their wedding recorded in 3D. The cost was $20K+
