I just read in another thread that DirecTV downconverts the 1080i/60 format horizontal resolution from 1920 to 1280 ( and presumably upconverts it back
to 1920 on the final output). Is this true? If so that sucks because its like
a pseudo format, and it's not true 1080i anymore if they are doing resolution lossy processing like that.

That is the "HD-Lite" argument... ans is relavent to the MPEG-2 SAT Based feeds.

And yes... they do that on their MPEG-2 stations (as do some other carriers).
They do not do that on their MPEG-4 stations.

It is expected that that "process" will stop once they convert the MPEG-2's to MPEG-4., as it was done to squeeze more bandwith out of the limited space they had.
