It got a lot less Militant Left Wing since September 11th. Turns out Americans do want to provide for the common defense after all.

The Season Finale had President Bartlett ordering the assasination of a Middle Eastern political leader. Can you imagine such a thing happening during last year's West Wing? Sorkin just knows which way the wind is blowing.
