We've had D* for about a month after having E* for several years. Getting use to it ;) .

One thing that is particularly annoying is that the KCAL signal will go completely dead about once or twice every half hour or so. It only lasts for about 3 or 4 seconds each time. It starts with the video freezing and at the same instant the audio stutters for about 1/2 second, then, blank screen and no audio. There is no pixelation or other warning before it happens. Is this a reception issue at my end or is it D* having trouble ? If it's the latter I would have thought I would find similar complaints here but didn't.

E* didn't have KCAL HD but the VIP622 DVR had an ATSC tuner which I made use of with an OTA antenna that worked flawlessly on all L.A. channels. I am considering picking up a couple AM21s so we can get some of the local channels/sub-channels that we no longer get. This got me to thinking, if I could find someone near where I live that has a couple HR20s, would D* allow me to trade my HR21s ? If so, what would I be giving up in the HR21s that the HR20s don't have ?

I'm not sure this belongs in this forum or another one so please move it if need be.

Thanks!

That a common problem for KCAL. When I first got D* it was really bad. Over the last few months and many complaints D* has realigned my dish, replaced the grounding block, replaced all the RJ6, coax ends, and put on a new LNB. I have not seen it do what you described in a very long time. Sorry, not much of a pinpoint solution, but maybe sign up for the protection plan for a few months and get them out there to service everything, then once the problem is fixed (or better), cancel the plan.

I have never seen what your describing, and I watch ALL Laker games, and quite a few Dodger games recently, so I'd say the problem is not Directv or KCAL, but somewhere on your end... What are your signals on the following sats...

Satellite transponders (6 total at 99º(s))(All are spotbeams)
1-8 # # # # # # NA NA
9-16 NA NA NA NA NA NA # #
17-24 # # # # # # # #
[Note: these can be very slow to appear]

Satellite transponders (16 total at 103º(s))(All are spotbeams)
1-8 # # # # # # NA NA
9-16 NA NA NA NA NA NA # #
17-24 # # # # # # # #

Okay, finally had a chance to get the signal numbers so here they are:

99(s) Tuner #1

1-6 0 51 0 76 83

99(s) Tuner #2

1-6 0 50 0 74 82

103(s) Tuner #1

9-16 N/A N/A N/A N/A N/A N/A 30 100
17-24 95 96 98 100 98 0 51 0

103(s) Tuner #2

9-16 N/A N/A N/A N/A N/A N/A 30 100
17-24 94 95 97 100 97 0 50 0

Of course, as soon as I finished writing these down and switched back to live television, the nightly sports wrap-up show was on (KCAL) and it was Kurt Shilling bad-mouthing Manny Ramirez. Or at least I think that's what it was because right when he was going to speak the picture went blank and the audio stopped - twice.
