I realize that you can still watch AVI movies that are XVID/DIVX encoded by streaming them from a pc that can transcode them on the fly into MPG2. What I'm hoping is that native XVID/DIVX support is still a possibility and hasn't been dropped as a possible firmware update option. Personally I was very shocked when Microsoft added it to the XBOX360 since,if I remember correctly, the XVID codec was originally a Microsoft codec that got hacked, atlhough I'm probably remembering the whole thing incorrectly. Anyways, what do you all think?

I doubt it. The video decoding in a HR2x is handled by dedicated hardware not by the CPU so it has more limited capabilities. The xbox 360 on the other hand has much more programable hardware to handle different things. Xvid/divx is based on the mpeg4 standard but it is different enough that an mpeg 4 decoder can't understand it.
