Planning on moving and I'm wondering if it's worth signing up with directv and getting the HR34 now with a new contract or just stick with their local cable company (TWC) and waiting until they work out more of the bugs? We'll only be setting up one TV set and would love having the ability to record 4 shows at once with one box instead of having 2 but is it worth it at this point in time?

How do you go for it such that you can be sure of the model you get when reordering?
DIRECTVs procedure for fulfilling HDDVR with varying models does not apply to the HR34. It has a completely different feature set and cost and is named a Home Media Center. Ask for the Home Media Center when ordering.

Maybe if you can get it cheap or free you could live with the frustration of the thing not working. It's very annoying tho. I just hope all the problems are software related.

Hmmm. Thanks for the info. I went to my online account and saw the HR34 listed as an HMC. However it says 'available soon' as an ordering option. Are you saying that if I call I can get in queue?

I’m interested in this also, if I call Directv up can I get one or will they just put me on a waiting list? Also how much is it? Right now I’m getting $100 discount on the Tivo and the other current HDDVR,will I get the same discount with the HR34 (HMC)?

I was looking at pulling the trigger for service and I see they now have an Advanced Receiver Service fee of $20 and an Additional TV (1 receiver) fee of $6.00.

It says I'm credited the $6 fee but no time limit is put on it. How do you get charged for it or for it to even show up on the bill if you are only getting one receiver? Is this just something they can activate when the 24 months are up or when ever they want?

The new Advanced Receiver Service fee is for the DVR and HD the service. Didn't I read that the DVR service just went from $6 or $7 to $8 in the last month?

Sorry if this was posted else where I really haven't had much time to do a proper search with packing up to move and all.

If you have a chance to get cable get a TiVo and not any DTV box. If you don't get a TiVo than any of the DVRs including DTV will be flawed in some way or other.

The additional receiver fee is always waived for the first box. They have to charge and credit it because some states require tax on it, even at no charge. That will never chabge to a charge. If you get an additional box, then that is charged.
