Is my HR-21 dying?

773 Views 5 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  California King
This past week I have had my HR-21 get the green screen, which took more than a RBR to fix. Had to leave it unplugged for about 10 minutes. A few days later, I woke up and every channel, except for Ch. 11 gave me the looking for signal message and when I ran the test, tuner 2 had 0% signal. (regular reset fixed it...for now)

On top of that, ever since I had this box, I've had several small problems such as unusually slow navigation, AV syncing problems, and plenty of black screen recordings! Usually the black screen recordings are on local channels, but I just got one today on Ch. 354 (recording E3).

What should I do? Thanks. BTW, I am definitely not a happy DirecTV customer with the experience I've had for the past 5 or so months :(

Is this your only receiver? What are your signal strengths like on your other units (if you have any) or on this unit when it is performing properly...

Hold down the info button on your remote for 3 seconds and let us know what software version you have...

Have you had these problems with this unit for 5 months?
Call DIRECTV and tell them what's going on. They will likely deny that they've ever heard of your problems before, but in the end, they will likely replace your HR21.

Be sure to ask them if the shipping on the replacement unit and return of the defective unit is free.

Currently, my HR-21 has a signal strength of 86% and 84%. On my D11, the signal strength is 94%.

I have version 0x235

Are you comparing the same satellite & transponder on both?

How long have you had these issues with this receiver?

Yes, they are both connected to the same satellite. Not sure what a transponder is.

I've always had small issues with my HR-21..It is usually fixed with a reset or having it unplugged for a few minutes, but I always run into small problems every month I've had it.
