I'd like to switch over from cable tv to directv. I need to bundle with century link for the phone and internet.
I know directv offers freebees for a new 24 month signup. Is now a good time?
What kind of deal should I expect?

I would wait a little longer. I signed up May 7th, i used to have cable, but i, at the last minute, went to DirecTV, which happened to be the last day of the "Big Deal" promo. I got the Choice Ultimate for $44.99, plus free Premiums for 3 months, also $10 HD fee was waived, and i used the "Refer a Friend" discount ($100, $10 per month discount). Also had free installation with an H25 receiver which was also free and auto-pay. But i don't think deals are happening at the moment. You may be able to save SOME money, like "Refer a Friend", but not the deals i have received.
I kept the TWC Internet, which i'm glad i did.

right. when you use the refer a friend promo, make sure to get your friend's account number BEFORE you call in. this is critical to get the promo.

As to when to switch over, that is up to you. You can sit on the fence and wait for a better deal hopefully come along, or you can choose to switch now.. You will always kick yourself for not waiting that 1 extra week or month, but then again it may never come along.

Right now they are offering NFL Sunday Ticket if you order certain Pkgs. Thats a $200 value, along with Free Installations and other perks.

I think you will not be sorry for making the switch.

I've been with TWC for about 6 years, with 2 TWC DVR Receivers and 3 Tivos with Cable Cards with about 3 TB of total HD space. TW said they were taking away my Price Lock Guarantee and not renewing it.
I decided to go with DTV and got a good deal. HR34, HR24, and a R22, with $198.00 up front, plus free installation. $29.00 discount for 1st 12 months and $10.00 for months 13-24, $10.00 Discount for 24 Months for auto-pay, AAA $10.00 discount for 20 months and free NFL Ticket.
So I'm getting Choice Extra, for $51.99/mo for first 12 months with discounts expiring after that. That's a really good deal considering TWC wanted to increase my bill from $87.00 to $107.00 and would not negotiate.
I've had all the services over the last 16 years playing the switch game, Dish, DTV, TWC and including 10' C-band/Ku-band satellite dish. The only way to really get a good deal consistently is to be ready to walk out on your current provider and be ready to switch to the best deal available at the time. I find it works well with cell phone companies, internet and phone service providers also. If DTV doesn't give me a reasonable deal in 24 months, I'll go shopping again.

My story is almost the same as cmdel07's. Leaving my Tivo's w/ CableCards and TW service after 7 so/so years. I'll miss the boxes, but not the service.

Moving to a whole house system with HR34, HR24, and one HD receiver that is TBD. I signed up through the current Costco deal, which is pretty generous. My install is scheduled for next Friday, and I'm excited to be back with DTV.

They actually gave you an R22?

If you have HD on your account, and you add an R22, it will become an HD DVR (basically an HR21-200). Your wife can set all her recordings and record them on the R22, but if a show happens to be broadcast in HD it will record in HD, not SD.
