I keep seeing people asking for simultaneous IR and RF remote control operation for HR20.
But I have never seen anyone address whether or not that is even physically possible?
In other words, is it strictly a software issue or are there hardware issues that would restrict this?
Are there units out there (TIVO, DTV, etc) that are capable of both at the same time?

Yes, it's possible. I'm pretty sure it was enabled in earlier builds of the software, but they disabled it for some reason. I'd love to know why. I like using the RF features for range and non-line of sight control, but it prevents me from programming it into my universal remote. I want to do both!

To me its one of those basic things that all RF devices just support. Every RF enable device I've owned did both IR and RF simultaneously.

IIRC the software guys on the HR20 thought it was simple to fix, but it turned out to be difficult for some reason. I get the impression it is technically possible with the hardware, but has now fallen very low on the things to fix list.

Cool! Because I like the RF remotes for function, but we have a big-button remote for my mom and it only works on IR.
Looking forward to seeing it some day.
