I was wondering is there a footprint map of how far MPEG4 signals reach. I am curious if I would be able to receive Norfok, VA MPEG4 signals in Wilson, NC 27896 once they go online in December. I of course would have to "move" in order to receive them.
Is there a MPEG4 footprint map?

I'd like to see one just because I'm curious. In Austin I can see 6 KA transponders, all with signal readings in the 90's if not 100. Now I know D* isn't use 6 transponders for the three HD stations that they're providing in Austin so I'd like to know what other cities transponders I am seeing.

Aren't they delivered via spotbeams at this point? I thought I remembered seeing a spotbeam map at some point...

This information is probably out-of-date, and it does not include spot beams from the new 99-deg and 103-deg Ka-band satellites (that beam the MPEG4 channels).911medic said:

Lyngsat just shows the channels that are beamed from each satellite. It does not show their transponders, or the spot beam footprints.P Smith said:

Sorry but I don't see what this has to do with showing what the spot beam coverage areas are for SW1 and SW2. The first link shows the CONUS coverage for AMC4 (what the heck does that have to do with this?) and the 2nd link just lists some transponder frequencies. What folks would like to see is something like this http://ekb.dbstalk.com/pictures/echo8.gif, which is for E8 for the two D* Spaceway satellites.P Smith said:

according to DIRECTV.com you already get HD locals from the Raleigh-Durham DMA (NBC,ABC,CW) so probably no...why get locals from another market anyways?? I live in an area where I still get them with an off air antenna, but they say that my DMA will be up and running HD in December too...bryantlc said:

It does make sense for some. What if your local stations stink (ie: they quite often fail to pass the network HD feed, or they pre-empt a lot of programming) and you would like to get the shows from another source? If you can already get your locals OTA, then this gives you a second shot.untouchable said:

It is easy to come up with a reason to do what it is you want to do, but there should be a way to get the prime time shows in HD when the local stations won't pony up the bucks to broadcast in HD and won't grant a waiver.

This info is also of interest to those who are currently being shut out of getting their RSN in HD--even though they may be under the spotbeam--and considering a "move" to get it.videojanitor said:
