Is there a way to get a better deal than what is offered on dtv website or phone?

As the subject says, is there a way to get a better deal then what is offered on the dtv website or phone?

Reason I ask is because I had an install scheduled 6 or so months ago, but decided to cancel and wait for the HR20. Customer service called me a few weeks later and offered some enticing deals to reschedule my installation, but I declined.

Now I can’t seem to get anything better then what is being offered standard. Even when I scheduled service 6 months ago I got offered better than advertised deals, even before the CS call.

I really want to go DTV, but I need 2 HR20s, and 2 R15s, and I refuse to pay full price, $600+ dollars when I can keep my cable service free of charge equipment wise…

Many are getting them for $99 and then $99 off their bill. Ask a few different CR's.

I got all mine for free on the holiday special plus they really wanted me back all i did was email them and let them call me they even had a special csr call me. I think it was retentions but they called it something like a reactivation specialist or something.almost everything i ask her for she gave me I did have to agree to a new contract for 24 months but that might keep me from the price increase a contract is a contract as far as Im concerned.

I don't think the price is guaranteed for the life of your contract. They don't seem to have a problem giving discounts on stuff though. When they had the Sunday Ticket special for new customers I tried to get that as an existing customer and they wouldn't do it. They did give me all the movie channels for 3 months free though. I guess it is just a matter of who you talk to, what is said, and how willing they are to "wheel and deal" with you.

That's what I just got mine for. HR20. Just had to ask in retention and they did it. That was on 12/23, just FYI. :)
How are you guys getting these deals??? I just called two more times today, and although I was offered something different by each CS rep, it was nothing even near the deals you all have gotten.

I'm not looking for freebee's, believe me, I'm willing to pay, something, but not $5-600 for four units. I'd like to pay $200 ideally, but *might* go as high as $3-400, MAX. I can't get anyone to work with me though. I even asked for the retention dept, which of course they wouldn't transfer me to...

Are you a former D* customer? Or have you never been a D* customer?

If a former customer, how well did you handle your account? Why did you leave and how did you handle that? If you were not a very good customer the first time around (and I have nothing that tells me you weren't, just pointing toward a possible explanation), what incentive would they have to give you deals to come back?

If you've never been a customer, the best you could probably hope for is their standard new customer deals. What reason would they have to give you more than that? And having already cancelled an installation, that probably doesn't bode well in your favor, wither.

I haven't looked at what kind of deals people may have been posting here, but I think most of the deals I have read about people getting have been related to being a cutomer in good standing and/or have experienced some types of problems for which D* feels compelled to compensate them for.

I seriously doubt that people have wound up getting two HR20 HD DVRs and two R15 SD DVRs for only $200! I really think that's a completely unrealistic expectation - especially for someone who isn't even a customer. I guess I just can't firgure out why you feel you should be getting that kind of deal. What am I missing???

$299 for each HR20. I'll just guess, for the sake of argument, that the price of the R15 is $99 each (I tried to look it up on D*'s web site, but because I am a long-standing A-list customer, I can't actually see the price because it's offering it to me free - ironic :)).

That's $800 worth of equipment that you would prefer to only pay $200 for, but you would maybe - if you had to - pay half-price for it? Why SHOULD D* do that for you?

I would be a new customer, and I believe what you are missing is that I never said I should get any particular kind of deal, i just said that I saw others getting it (and I understand your thoughts on that) and that I have been offered a better deal myself in the past, but I could not accept, at the time, because the HR20's werent out yet, and the combo setup of the H20 and R15 on one TV was not as great a setup as I was led to believe by a DTV CS Rep when I initially placed my order back then.

I understand that not everyone has the options that I have but why on earth would I pay $5-6-800 on equipment that I now have for free through comcast? I would prefer DTV, and therefore would be willing to pay something extra to switch, so why should I not try to get such a deal? Especially if I felt others were getting such deals, and was even previously offered such a deal in the past?

Certainly DTV owes me nothing. I know that . . .
OK clearer to me now. Thanks.

If I was in your position, based on what I've read of your posts, I guess I'd be staying with comcas ... comc ... I can't even bring myself to say it.

From the numbers you've put out that you would be willing to pay and for what, I just don't know that I've seen anyone get that kind of deal. I've seen a few free HR20s, some for around $99, I paid $199 for mine. I have yet to see deals matching r HR20s and 2 R15s for around $400, though. And I've seen none of that for brand new customers. That would leave me staying where I am.
I was in Circuit City a couple of days ago. They had HR20s for sale at $99 - $100 rebate (for new customers). Now if you want more than one I doubt you'll get the rebate on the second unit. But then, $99 ain't bad either.
For HR20s or H20s? That is a really nice deal for an HR20!
I think it was for HR20's. The R15s had the same price.
I suppose I should have verified that price, but since we don't yet have HD locals in our DMA (157) I didn't.

I'll stop in next week to verify. They may have mismarked them or I misread the box.
I dont know about the hr20 but current customers can get a r15 for free using the dvr4u2 code when they log onto there account online

HR20's for $299 with $100 rebate at Best Buy--have not seen any HR20 anywhere for less than that!
