I hate monthly bills and I have the funds to pay an entire year at once, but I only see an option to pay $100 over my usual bill. I am not looking for a discount or anything, but would like to pay my entire years bill in one payment. I have done a search on here and on google, but have had no luck. Apparently this isn't a popular way of paying DTV bills. lol Before I call, I figured I would ask y'all first.

Yeah, not really interested in if it's a good investment or not. It is just easier for me, since I am not always at home or in an area with internet or phone access. I suppose I could open another checking account, but that in it's self is just another thing to deal with, I would rather just go online once a year and pay the full amount. Then be billed for any movies or extras I decide to purchase. Actually, I would probably just go online and order the movie and pay for it at the same time. I get too many monthly bills as it is. I just would like to eliminate a few.

So, why not set up auto pay from your bank account? That way you don't have to bother with monthly bills and you can get interest on the money (albeit small).
Because I have had a problem with DTV and pulling more then they are supposed to. I don't trust them. I also prefer to not let anyone but myself have access to my checking accounts or credit cards.

The thread starter in that thread indicated that he could pay extra by calling. I don't think paying ahead of time would do anything more than create a credit balance that the monthly billing would lower each month. There would still be the potential for billing errors.

Ok, I didn't see that. Thanks

As far as billing errors go at least I could check it every few months rather than ever month. My biggest issue has been DTV has taken my entire balance in the past, nearly $1000. I am not keen on them or anyone else having access to any of my accounts.

Call customer service and make the payment.

We travel a good bit and it may be two months sometimes before we get mail. We addressed the problem by having a separate checking account for all our autopay accounts. I periodically put enough money into that account to cover upcoming bills. So, if somebody wanted to screw me and take extra, they wouldn't get much. Never has happened, though.

This comes up from time to time. AAFIK, DIRECTV doesn't have a specific pre-pay program but I suppose there's nothing to stop you from making a large payment.

I have to wonder if there's some kind of threshold where DIRECTV will send out a refund for a large credit. You could setup up an account for auto-pay and just put in what you want and let DIRECTV take care of getting their money...you might earn a little (very little) interest along the way.

Years ago when I had Dish Network they allowed you to pre-pay and receive a decent discount for it. Not sure whether they still do that. it was a decent deal.
I still do the annual payment with DISH. The annual payment gives me a one month discount. I don't know why they don't hype this on their web site. I had to ask about it.

I think your best option is to use a pre-paid credit card, like the AMEX you mentioned. Just set that card up as your AutoPay source.
