Okay, so this is a bit of a rant.
I think it was kind of cheap of Dish to make me pay the $15 to ship my only receiver, a defective 612, back and get a "new" one.
But charging me for having two 612s during the 10 days it took to exchange them has got to be an all time low!

So my bill is much higher this month because the equipment I don't own broke?
And the only way to get a replacement is to pay for shipping it from 9 states away?
And thanks for sending me a 612 that acts all buggy when it's hooked up to broadband. That's state of the art technology at it's finest.
I'd exchange it if I could afford it, not that I would really expect to get anything better.

I used to think Dish was better that the bundle "cluster" from cable.
Now I'm not so sure.

Without the Protection Plan on your account, there is a $15 shipping charge. There is not a charge for the replacement equipment. This should have been indicated to you at the time you requested the replacement. Please provide your account number to me in a PM to see if I can assist you further. Please let me know. Thanks.

The monthly charge for an additional 612 is $10. At first glance it appears you are being charged $3.33 for a month and 10 days, but this is for the period covered by the previous month's programming bill. My guess is what was intended to be a credit instead got applied as a charge.

Another possibility... When he activated the new/replacement, did he deactivate the old receiver? Assuming he did that, there would be no pro-rated charge.

I'm guessing that when he activated the new receiver, his old one was not de-activated... so it was still on the account until Dish received it back.

oh, I didn't know I had to deactivate the non working one. I guess that's on me.

I know I sound like a complainer, but all I did was try and switch out a non working 612 and it ended up costing me a bit.

These days every dime counts.

To be fair... Did you call to activate the new receiver OR did you do it online?

IF you did it online, the Web site should handle automatically deactivating the old receiver for you... at least that's how it worked when I had to replace my 622 recently.

IF you called in, and a CSR activated the new receiver... that CSR should have either deactivated the old one automatically OR asked you about it.

Granted the $3.33 is the smaller part of your billing question, but you should be able to have that reversed (maybe one of the DiRT reps here can be of assistance)... since it should be pretty clear that you really didn't have 2 receivers on your account in use if they received the old one back.

I remember the shipping charge listed on Dish's site at one point. I understand Grantmobile's frustration, but I doubt there is anything he can do about that part of his bill. The prorated charge will be removed once Dish is made aware of the error.

I called to activate.

Yeah, I'm sure with a call or two I could get the 3 bucks back.

It just seems these days every time I turn around it costs me more.

I know I can't take it with me, but the way they're chipping away at me I'll be lucky if I gets to go myself.:)

Did you send Ray the PM he asked you for above?

Won't be able to until I'm home to get my account number.

It's very nice of Ray to offer to help.

Now that I know they charged me because I didn't know to deactivate the old box, I understand it all better. Dish doesn't normally charge you for the time the old receiver is in transit back to them.
Its an error and I'm sure they'll make it right. It was just a bit of a rant.

FYI: The DIRT Team can get your account number from your home phone number, so you have an alternate way to provide your account information in a PM to DIRT.
