On October 1st my 10 year old 508 PVR died. I called Dish Network told them what happened and they said no problem they will replace the receiver. Later that day I get a call telling me that a dish tech will be coming to my house the next day between eight and 12. Thinking dish was going to mail the replacement receiver I called them back and was told they were going to instal a 512 and since it has two sat lines they wanted to do it themselves and there would be no charge for the service call.
The next day the installer shows up and brings into my home three 512's. He says his work order is to replace the broken 508 and my two 510's. I told him those were fine he insisted so I called dish and was told that they were in fact upgrading all three of my old DVR's.
I never asked but presumed the three new receivers would be leased but I just checked the website and it says that the 512's are purchased.
Is this a normal upgrade or procedure to replace broken equipment? I read so many complaint stories about dish and the first time I have to call them in 10 years has turned out to be one of the best customer service experiences I have ever had. I keep thinking some sort of ax is going to fall.
