When the DVR reboots, it checks the file system for errors. Apparently yours had an error in perhaps the file table, and "fixed it". I've got three DVRs, with the oldest about 18 months, and [luckily] none have done this.njmurvin said:

I can only attribute this to the latest upgrade. I went to my "list" and nothing except for the golf that I recorded that day was there. I had saved quite few movies and the entire John Adams series. Now, all are gone. I had some duplications on my HR20 (which appears to be OK). But, this is obviously a concern. Anyone know what conditions cause the entire list of recordings to be erased all at once?
It could be a file system error and also due to the latest upgrade if, for example, the file checking code was changed so as to detect additional errors. We're very sorry for your loss.njmurvin said:I can only attribute this to the latest upgrade.
Dolly wouldnt affect signals here in LA. Too far away and in the wrong direction.njmurvin said:I meant to post this before . . . it also wiped out all my series recordings. I noticed last night it had some trouble playing back a recorded show (don't laugh . . . "So You Think You Can Dance" - c'mon, there are some hot chicks on that show - but I digress). There were quite a few drops/pauses (black screen for a few secs) garbled audio and pixelizations. Then, it would straighten itself out. No storms or anything (in LA anyway). I wonder if my hard drive might be starting to fail. Also, do storms in the Gulf (e.g. Hurricane Dolly) affect signals elsewhere?
"I don't know", but I haven't seen much in the way of disk checking/formating, so.... ??romulox said:njmurvin - very similar to my problem(s) concerning... cough cough... so you think you can dance... cough. See my post: http://www.dbstalk.com/showpost.php?p=1694012&postcount=128
VOS - question for you. You mentioned there's a file system check upon reboot. I mentioned in another thread that I assume it's fsck -y. On some of my servers, I have to run fsck multiple times in a row (for example, 1st pass it finds one set of errors, 2nd pass, it corrects something else, 3rd pass, all clear). Do you think it's possible that multiple reboots in a row might better address any file system issues on the DVR, or is my theory all hogwash???
thanks!
This is pretty archaic stuff for a Linux system. I remember the days of fsck, but they're long gone. I haven't run fsck, or had it run, for years. These days the operating system maintains a record of recent file system transactions on disk, so if a crash leaves the file system in an inconsistent state, it can be fixed from the record. Fsck, which could never to any more than guess at how to fix a corrupted file system, seldom needs to be run anymore.romulox said:VOS - question for you. Same thing happened to me after latest software "update." Lost all recordings, favorites, etc. SECOND time it's happened to me.njmurvin said:I've seen others complain about this from time to time. That could be due to signal being degraded before it reaches your receiver. Before paying for a service call, you might visually inspect your antenna and wire connections, just to see if there's anything obvious going wrong. Dish wobbling, bird's nest, that sort of thing.njmurvin said:There were quite a few drops/pauses (black screen for a few secs) garbled audio and pixelizations.
