It pays to be polite to the csr. Yesterday I called and added locals to my package but last night the hd dns and sd dns disappeared. Called to have it fixed and was told I could only add fox dns since it was not available locally. Decided to try again this morning and explained that I had waivers since moses was in diapers and guess what the young woman re-added my dns feeds without any problem. So in saying, It does help to be polite and nice to csr's as they can do more than what many people think they can do.

And by way they added hd extra pack free for three months, no questions asked.
Being polite is the right thing to do. That being said the HD Extra pack is free for anyone for the next three months just sign up on the website. The promotion was announced here earlier this week.

Wouldn't it be nicer if D* had some competent CSRs as well? Then you wouldn't have to call several times to get anything done.

English and Spanish classes for the CSRs would be a nice addition as well.

Am not all that sure why you are so happy that you are getting what you are paying for and are entitled to. Is incompetency something you enjoy dealing with? If so, we have nothing in common in that regard.

Its also kind of comical that you think you are getting something special when that is being offered to anyone and everyone. :)

My point was not to demean a CSR, but to point out that being polite normally helps when dealing with people.

English and Spanish classes may indeed be nice for for CSR's, but it isn't something I am paying for and don't expect to get it free as part of my service. But you can push the button on the phone to get options in spanish if you need spanish. Am I not correct?

I never said I was getting something special, but that said I do know that customers who are rude and nasty to a CSR usually don't get offered any deals when they call. Sometimes there are deals available that are NOT advertised and can be had by being polite.(Or keeping you account paid on time I"ve experienced that too)

I'll close in saying, If you had a bad experience with D* and are unsatisfied with their service then you should either address your personal problem to the right people in a calm and polite manner and attempt to get it resolved or just drop their service and get service from Dish or Cable. (Which do you think is better?) But please don't berate me for trying to be polite to another person while resolving my problem (and having success doing it). I do hope you have a nice day and maybe, who knows, you may even win the lottery.

Hmmm... maybe it pays to be polite out here as well... you may not be sure why the OP is happy, but he is or why he felt he was getting something special (even though he felt that way)... but, why not just leave it at that rather than ... well, just read it above. :nono2:

Am not saying that you should be rude to CSRs, but I hardly see how anyone should be ecstatic about getting something screwed up and then fixed by a CSR. Are people THAT used to LOUSY service that they are THAT thankful when something that they are PAYING for is actually fixed?

The way I see it is if we use McD's instead of D* for an example. You go in and ask for a burger. They give you an order of fries instead of your burger. You get outside and see that you have fries and not a burger, and the receipt shows you already paid for a burger, not fries so you return inside and ask for your burger instead of fries. The 2nd counter person gives you the correct item (fries) that you already PAID for and ask if you would like some mustard (a standard item on the burger) on your burger. Should you go about the world singing the praises of McD's as they got your order correct on the second try? Are you that used to dealing with shoddy goods and / or services? I, for one, am NOT. If I am paying for something I expect to get what I paid for, nothing more, nothing less. Maybe you and the OP are jubilant about being ripped off, however, I and most others are NOT.

satelliteracer who appears to be a very helpful DirecTV employee and frequent poster here alerted us to the promotion in a thread on UHD and the Olympics. Try a search on his name and you'll get the information.

Gotta love it when someone's adamantly trying to make a point (or should I say, counterpoint) about something and they're so whipped up about it they can't even get their own facts straight!

Many CSRs are not well informed about everything going on. Usually asking to speak to someone higher up, when one runs into an incompetent or new CSR resolves most issues. I never have to call more than once. Probably because I am nice and respectful every time.

Why would they need English classes? Every CSR I have ever spoke to speaks English perfectly well. You must not be a Direct sub. If you are you would realize that Direct's CSRs are from the USA.

I don't know too many people who can still get DNS when they also have their own locals available. I would be happy about that as well.

Free is free. The fact that they offered it and gave it too him without him asking is a good thing.
