"Direct TV Help
Current mood: peeved

Okay. So, I get Direct TV installed. I get the HD DVR box and I'm trying to set up all of my favorite shows to record. First, I put in Project Runway. But it says that the next new episode is on Saturday. I don't understand this but according to the Direct TV Guide they are showing a Real Housewives of Atlanta preview for 36 hours on Bravo starting Wednesday. Is this even correct? I have no idea. I decide to move on.

I try to record World Poker Tour. The system crashes. I can't turn off the box. I unplug it. Now, it won't turn back on. Yay. One hour with this thing in my house and it's already broken.

And, I hate the menu. There are like 5 billion channels! It takes FOREVER to scroll through things and it moves SLOW.

Does anyone love this system? Why do you love it? What am I doing wrong?

I have a tech guy coming today. Hopefully that will help."

I'm way too old to have a MySpace account. Maybe those of you young enough to have one can help out a starlet in trouble. ;)

It almost sounds like the installer didn't upgrade the software, she tried to set up stuff on the old version, and it suddenly rebooted to download the new version when she unplugged it.

That apparently random reboot to download new software surprised me when I got a replacement receiver. It just suddenly rebooted 10 minutes after I started it up for the first time.

Yes, would someone with a myspace presence please ask her to come here? She can sign up under an assumed name and no one will bother her.

I agree that she's probably better served by coming here for help than going to DirecTV's tech support, but I gotta say, take a run through those comments. If you've ever wondered what your average user thinks, this is a pretty decent source for it. The sentiment I gathered was, DirecTV's programming is good, but their DVR is slow and unreliable...hmmmmmm...sounds familiar....

P.S. In the interest of full disclosure, I am not a TiVo fanboy by any stretch of the imagination, but I will be dumping this HR20-700 POS immediately upon the TiVo HD DVR becoming available.

I couldn't get past the first page.
I'm not very sure those that posted would be "average users". Seemed more like a "call to *****" than anything else.

I found thumbing through the comments pretty interesting too. And I *do* think it's a pretty good slice of an 'average' user. At least a semi-tech savvy younger set of users. I'm frankly surprised how many said they went back to cable.

But as msmith suggested, it just sounds like the original installer didn't do a very good job explaining how to use the box. But do they ever? :nono2:

If she's dedicated to NFL Sunday Ticket though, I'm sure she'll stick it out.

Get past the first page. If you actually skim through them, you'll see trends develop. Those comments actually present a kind of unique source of opinions since they're originally drawn to the subject by something other than the subject matter itself. It gives their comments (collectively, anyway) a little more J6P legitimacy if you ask me.

I'm not impressed...no wonder she's having issues...... :D

Wonder what time she's gong to the Prom this weekend....she looks about 17 years old in that main photo.
Oh sure, way to welcome a potential new user! She's definitely a cutie!

Be on the lookout for a new user named "PamFromTheOffice"... ;)
