While "World News Tonight" anchor Peter Jennings has probably unpacked his bags after returning from his "In Search of America" tour, the question for months has been whether he'll be packing it in at ABC News.
For the past few months, indications have been that he will remain, and a well-placed source in ABC News said Sunday that a deal was close. Jennings' contract, set to expire at the end of this month, has been a topic of speculation since April, when it was said that he, along with many employees at ABC News, faced the prospect of a pay cut.
The curiosity intensified when rival NBC News announced that Brian Williams would replace Tom Brokaw as "Nightly News" anchor in 2004. Dan Rather is slated to remain at CBS' "Evening News" until 2008.
