Just by asking and being nice..

So in the last 5 days D* has hooked me up by just being nice and asking. It started Wednesday when I called to ask about getting a HD DVR upgrade... Well by the end of that call... I got a HR21-100 for $100 bucks, HBO and Showtime for free for three months. On Friday my HR21-100 arrived (as I elected self install) well surprise, surprise... no BBC's in the box. So I called and explained the situation, well they sent me the BBC's and for my trouble they also gave me Cinemax and Starz for three months... well tonight after reading some posts I called about getting SF for free. Well after talking to a super cool CSR, in his words "I wish people would just come out and ask like you have instead of beating around the bush" he hooked me up with the SF for free plus a additional credit of $50 on top of that.. So in summary in the past 5 days D* has hooked me up with almost $400 in stuff for just asking and being nice. Oh and let me add that I have only been a D* subscriber for just one year on august 15th.

So the lesson learned here is just be nice and ask... the worse they can say is NO.

WOW you would think others would already know this. Nice job.
Being nice and courteous when speaking to folks at DirecTV always has paid big dividends for me over the 7+ years I've been a customer. These people do NOT like being screamed at!

One of the access cards on my DVR's has been dying and often displays the "please insert valid access card" message. Last Friday I called in to get a replacement. I was told it would be here on Monday or Tuesday (today) but it never came. So I called in and explained the situation. I was frazzled because a recording I'd scheduled was unplayable due to the bad card. But I knew it was not the fault of the person who I was connected with. The person I talked to said for some unexplained reason the card was not sent out but it would be sent out immediately and without my even asking for a credit she told me that I would not have to pay the DVR access fee ($5.99/month) for SIX MONTHS due to the inconvenience!!

So let this be a lesson to you if you are a DirecTV customer experiencing a problem. The person you get on the phone is not the cause of your problem and being nice to them could result in a nice surprise!

Oddly, this works other places, too. Except for those people who DO like being screamed at. At the very least, one can be patient -- you don't have to be abusive to let them know you expect them to do better.
It's just like the ole' saying..........................

You can catch more flies with honey rather than vinegar.

Isn't it amazing how much further you can get with kindness. I really hope more people see this thread and remember this rather than calling in and demanding freebies because they think they deserve it, when all they really deserve is a boot to the head.

Wow. That last statement contradicts itself.
