Just got a call from Direct TV

This guy called me and said they've detected some issues with my HD dvr signals, had me check the software update and then read him off the signal strengths of each of the satellites. He determined that it appeared to be an alignment issue and said they were going to send a tech out to realign my dish for free.

I've never noticed any problems losing channels, I have some rainfade issues but figured that was normal

My question is, is this a normal procedure for D*?

It is something that DIRECTV has been doing for a little while now.
