i liked the show but then again i didn't at the same time.

ok, so they went with the Ford Mustang with the new series instead of the FireBird (which i can live with). but when they decided to make Kitt become like a Transformer and transform into a F-150 that's a little over the top.

For those who love the old Knight Rider. The original 1982 2 hour pilot will be on the Sleuth channel Friday night at 7pm EDT (DirecTV channel 308). Then episodes 2 & 3 at 3 & 4pm on Saturday the 27th continuing on from there on Saturdays at 3 & 4pm.
I wasn't all that impressed with the show either. I did enjoy the original back in the "old days". On the Dish feed of the local network it switched a couple of times from HD to SD in the middle of the show. It was probably in SD about 5 minutes or so.
Plot and show seem geared to the 12 year-old set, but then there are times like where the nerdy guy admits to liking porn that seem to be from a different show. I was wanting to like it but not sure if I'll stick with it.

Then there is the part where they are supposed to be driving around DC and it is obviously Southern California. I know they do it for cost but it really screws up my show watching. I'd swear that the scene where the DNA guy gets shoved out of the moving car is just south of the Rose Bowl in Pasadena.
I loved it... I have a new Favorite show!!!!
Is it possible for a show to Jump The Shark on the pilot episode? I had high hopes for the show, and maybe that's why I feel let down, but there was WAY too much "out there" stuff and having KITT transform into a "School Boy Racer" just seemed silly.....and I won't even discuss the F-150 tranform.

And for those that saw the mini-movie, did you notice that now KITT is sporting an automatic transmission stick??

One of my favorite lines from Austin Powers: "What's really amazing is how England in no way looks like Southern California."
It bring me back to the older version of the show. When David Hallelhof(SP) was Michael Knight.

When I watched the new one I really didn't think it was all that great. Would like to see the old shows come back.

Comments?
One reviewer dislikes the new version:
For my money, there can never be enough sentient contraptions and anthropomorphized appliances on TV. Independent-minded computers, peevish toasters, especially sass-talking robots -- TV's most valued service is preparing us for the day when we will be enslaved and summarily pimped out by our mass-produced electronic overlords....

...Therein lies the problem. I don't want nuance or multidimensional characters or slowly unfolding back stories from "Knight Rider." I want fast cars doing wheelies. I want leggy babes slathered in lip gloss. I want no fewer than 12 explosions per episode, and I want half of them to be presented in slow-motion....
I'm not so sure I want it all that simplistic. I kinda like nuance, multidimensional characters, and slowly unfolkding back stories. But I'm still not so sure about the show.
I'm with you, phrelin, but if you're going to do robots and explosions, do it like Michael Bay did it in Transformers. That movie is a perfect example of the genre. Brainless and impossible, but a load of fun.

I'm not going to say that the original Knight Rider was brilliant; in fact it was pretty dumb. We were all younger then, and the show never claimed to be very good.

In the 1980s, it was generally assumed that television was going to be drivel. It wasn't until the late 1990s that people began to think that television could be well-written as a rule, and today it's an expectation. When you're doing Heroes, a clunker like Knight Rider holds up pretty poorly.
The show may be a clunker overall but if nothing else is on against it, I don't know for sure so this is a guess, the ratings will be there for it and that's the bottom line.
I watched it on a plane on my iPhone last weekend, so for in-air entertainment it was better than the old standby, SkyMall. Too much of it was way too over-the-top for me. I think if they toned it back a bit I'd like it more. I'll give it another week or so.

I thought it was cool that they released it on iTunes for free before it was aired on network TV... I assume they did that to create a bit of a buzz.
Knight Rider replaces Las Vegas on NBC in the pure cheese category.

Bad acting: Check
Plot holes: Check
Outrageous scenarios: Check
Some cool FX: Check

They must be targeting this show for the early teen male and his dad. :p

I wouldn't compare it to Las Vegas. That is just a disservice to LV.

I want Knight Rider to work but that pilot was just plain bad. I think when Michael hopped out of the truck on the train track that an 8 year old could have made better CG than what showed up on screen. I'd also ask how a supposed internal combustion engine can run in an oxygen absent environment but when I cat can transform I guess that is somehow possible. I liked the movie from a few months back a lot more and it wasn't great.

Kind of like hoping Kiss will come out with good album again, or ever.:)

I don't think there was a scene in the entire show that lasted longer than six seconds.

I watched it just to see the Mustang. I've seen it. Now, I don't have to watch the show again. Whew! :)

I least the show was consistently bad ... nothing else about it was consistent.

The producers of the show haven't decided who their target audience is and what the tone of the show will be. During the first few minutes, it seemed to have kind of a tongue-in-cheek feel to it - "hey, we know this is silly, just have fun with it." But that didn't last long. Then it became totally silly - "Track the signal from her GPS" - "re-programming" Kit to become a pick-up - etc. A little comedy was thrown in, but, at the same time, it tried to be sexy and dramatic. It was just a terrible mess.

To me, it felt like I was watcing a bad text-based adventure computer game, complete with RPG-type acting. I ended up deleting the program at the 40 minute point, and I was just fast-forwarding through the program.

Good thing I didn't make the effort to actually create a season pass.
I miss William Daniels as the voice of KITT.

Not sure how this got a pass after the pilot episode.

I'm still hanging onto my '80s assumption, sorry.
