It may not last, but as I write this, KTUU Anchorage, the NBC affiliate, just went HD on D* for the first time ever. It's happened minutes ago during NBC's coverage of today's two NFL playoff broadcasts.

Beautiful 1080i. Very welcome, TV's a big deal up here in the cold winter! Hope it lasts.

Hooray!

At one point KTUU claimed DirecTV was down converting their HD feed to SD, that was almost two years ago. Don't know if that was true, but it's a very odd time for them to change anything.

Wilbur - I'm in a marginal area for KTUU OTA, but I understand that some of my neighbors can pull it in with a roof antenna.

dpeters - At one time, KTUU was expecting payment from D* to carry the HD feed. Later, they dropped that demand. But D*, citing capacity, didn't carry the HD feed. I do know that D* and E* share an OTA antenna in Anchorage to grab the local feeds and bring them south to then send to the birds. It could well be that the feed going south was HD, I don't know.

It's stayed on through Sunday, so I'm hoping this is a permanent change.
