Has anyone attempted tp install a larger hard drive or two hard drives in the HR20-700? All on my HR10-250 have dual larger drives and I enjoy the added recoding time.
They do not know if you opened the unit. If something happens put the old drive back in.Knon2000 said:Probably a much smarter solution is to use the eSATA port, since all these units are leased, and if you do run into a problem with a reciever, it would really suck being stuck with the bill due to warranty voiding. I am personally going to go the eSATA direction, even though I have enjoyed the extra recording time on my HR10's too.

Presuming you do it right and have luck on your side (or presuming you haven't posted a detailed review including photos of the internals on an enthusiast site... sorry Earl)Blitz68 said:They do not know if you opened the unit. If something happens put the old drive back in.
My HR20 has one of those tamper proof stickers across the back that show if the case has been opened.Blitz68 said:They do not know if you opened the unit. If something happens put the old drive back in.
Oh yes they do... There is a nice sticker on the back that you have to break to open the unit.Blitz68 said:They do not know if you opened the unit. If something happens put the old drive back in.
The HR10-250 didn't have a tamper-proof sticker.Knon2000 said:I can't think of any piece of electronics that I have bought over the last several years that doesn't have some sort of warranty protection sticker or mechanism included. If you are able to bypass all warranty protection, go for it, that is a good thing for you, but in my regard, I am simply not that talented.
Neither did my Hughes HDVR2.redfiver said:The HR10-250 didn't have a tamper-proof sticker.
Looking forward to this big time, as finally will have the ability with OTA to record the HD locals here!Earl Bonovich said:I know of one really cool External eSATA device that is being developed, by a third party company (not DirecTV).
Hopefully in the comming weeks, I will be able to share some photo's and specs and other goodies about it.
So if you can go for a while with the OEM space...
This eSATA solution, maybe the one for you...
Whoa, Earl! This could be big. You wouldn't fool with our heads, would you? Even my wife is turned on to the possibilities of eSATA.Earl Bonovich said:I know of one really cool External eSATA device that is being developed, by a third party company (not DirecTV).

Are you planning on making a sticky thread about it, or where should I be looking in "the coming weeks." I would be very interested in this. Thanks!Earl Bonovich said:I know of one really cool External eSATA device that is being developed, by a third party company (not DirecTV).

Any SATA drive will work.Blitz68 said:So, if I wanted to replaced the HDD in my HR20 what type do I need to get.
Can you give any hints what the price range would be? I am close to pulling the trigger on an eSata solution, but would be willing to wait for a better solution.Earl Bonovich said:No, I am not fooling...
