Not 300 HD channels, 300 HD programming choices. Going forward, kindly pay closer attention when viewing Comcast commercials....This was the first time that I saw that Comcrap says they have 300 HD channels versus Directv's 95.
yup .. and Nick .. wait an hour .. your choices won't changetimf said:Not to mention Comcast counts their own VOD programming choices but completely ignores DIRECTV On Demand. I counted available HD On Demand programs a couple weeks ago (it was during the Olympics so all the highlights on demand were available) and there were over 200 HD choices on DIRECTV On Demand. Add to that the full-time channels DIRECTV has and Comcast's advantage in HD programming choices is virtually gone.
Welcome to the world of DVRs. When you have 95 channels with 24 hours a day of programming 7 days a week, you have lots more than 300 choices.Nick said:Which is more important -- the number of HD channels or the number of HD programming choices?
To look at it differently, when you sit down to watch tv, which is better to have -- 95 HD channels with only one program choice each at any given time, or a lesser number of dedicated HD channels, plus one 'super' channel with a menu of 300 HD program choices?
As for the comparison in programming, well, all those extra HD channels on DirecTV carry many programs per day and hundreds per month--each. Even if we throw in the on-demand programming from Comcast, it would lose by a landslide.
The cheap trick of making a comparison at exactly 7:12 p.m. doesn't mean anything to me because you can't watch 500 channels at one time. I think the bottom line is simple: over the course of a day, week, or month, DirecTV delivers well more than twice as much HD programming as Comcast.
Don't feel too sorry for me, Tony -- I'll have two providers, threetonyd79 said:...Welcome to the world of DVRs. When you have 95 channels with 24 hours a day of programming 7 days a week, you have lots more than 300 choices.
Shame you live in the 20th Century where your only choices are live TV.
FYI, Comcast has just announced a pact to distribute the HDNets as well:Nick said:I will also keep the Dish HD-only package for the present, primarily for the HDNets, and the Weather channel in HD.
Two providers (DirecTV and Comcast). Four HD DVRs (3 HR2x, HD Tivo), 2 HD displays (Sony and Vizio). Netflix Roku box and Sling for travel.Nick said:Don't feel too sorry for me, Tony -- I'll have two providers, three
HD DVRs, four HD displays and tv in six rooms of my new home.
How about you?![]()
Wow, here in Philly they're airing commercials that say they have 500 HD "choices"! :hurah: :hurah: :hurah:Cable_X said:Did anyone catch it during the Colts/Bears game last night? This was the first time that I saw that Comcrap says they have 300 HD channels versus Directv's 95.
In other words, Tony. Don't feel sorry for him, because he is way richer than you and has a new huge house with lots of TVs in it. And you are just some common peasant. :nono:Nick said:Don't feel too sorry for me, Tony -- I'll have two providers, three

I too am from Philly. I dropped Comcast for Direct last week because I finally got sick and tired of being patient and waiting for Comcast to add more HD channels to its lineup. Philadelphia is the corporate home of Comcast, yet Philly has an almost embarrassing amount of HD compared to other Comcast markets throughout the country.kw2957 said:Wow, here in Philly they're airing commercials that say they have 500 HD "choices"! :hurah: :hurah: :hurah:
Took the words right outta my mouth. If we're counting HD "Programming Choices" can we throw in DirecTV's on demand choices? Cause by my count there's 192 of those static HD choices in there right now, plus the 95 or so we have in regular programming.Doug Brott said:yup .. and Nick .. wait an hour .. your choices won't change
Comcast wants you to think time stands still, but last I checked, it's an ever changing world![]()

It's all Marketing .. really, what should we expect when there isn't enough channels. It was actually a stroke of genius to use "choices" because you get a higher number but at the end of the day it's all fluff.Piratefan98 said:Comcast has always been the leader in sleazy HD claims. Nobody does it better.
Sadly, DirecTV has started working in that realm as well. I used to think DirecTV was sort of above all that .... letting Comcast be the proverbial used car salesman ..... but I guess they feel the need to lower themselves to the competition.
