If it's installed by DirecTV you could conceivably get anything from the HR20 on; refurbished or new.

In the retail chain you’ll find the HR22 & HR23 with the HR23-700 being the current latest model.

In retail stores, you might also find an R22, which is the same as an HR21 if you currently have HD service enabled (with the most recent national release software). The main difference between the HR21 and HR22/23 is that the latter have 500GB harddrives, while the HR21/R22 has a 320GB harddrive.

The biggest benefit of the R22 is that the retail upfront lease cost is almost half that of the HR2x series receivers.

Took the "hearts" $99 deal and just got an HR-21-100 refurb delivered. I installed it yesterday. This is my first DVR so I'm still checking it all out, there is NO remote lag. Still have to run network cable to it.
