Having major issues tonight with my HR20. I had Prison Break and Heroes set to record. Both recorded as shown in my list but I can't watch either show. I go to play either show and I get the "Delete Now" or "Do Not Delete" messages.

Called D*. I was told that the most recent update may have caused a glitch in the system. The CSR told me it might be a software glitch. He wanted me to do a "wipe all" which would erase all previously recorded shows. I am not prepared to do that. I told him I would wait until tomorrow before doing something that drastic.

Any thoughts? Am I screwed here?

I am about ready to have them take this machine back and I'll go back to my 40 hour SD TiVo.

Thanks

-) Don't do a "wipe all"... unless this really becomes a chronic problem on your system. Are these the first ones that you have had the problem with?

Try to restart they system. If the recordings are still there... then good.
But if they are not there, then they where corrupted when they recorded, and the unit cleared them out on the reboot.

Hopefully that will get your system operational again, till the next software update.

But why don't you have them give you $5 or $10 credit, to offset the cost of re-activating your SD TiVo, and use it as a backup for now.

That happened to us last week - we had 10 unwatchable recordings in a row after several days of no problems. A red-button reset and we were able to record successfully again, though those 10 were gone. Since then all our programs have recorded and played successfully, but we did have a total lockup this evening while reviewing programs in the Playlist trying to decide what to watch next.

Thanks, Earl. Resetting right now.

Sorry about your Bears yesterday. My father-in-law is big Bears fan. He is not a happy man right now.

I'll let you know how I make out.

Thanks

Back from the reset. Lost all recordings from this past weekend through tonight.

Prison Break was the mid season finale. I need to go and find that somewhere online. Heroes will be on again on FX (I think.)

I never had issue one with my TiVo. The HD is nice but I am a creature of habit. I like my shows when I want them. The enhanced picture is not worth the trade off for an unreliable DVR.

FWIW you can watch Heroes on nbc.com tomorrow or you can buy it on the iTunes store for $1.99 and get a better quality version.

Or for Hereos wait till Firday on Sci-Fi
Don't know about Prison Break.

The HR20 is getting better..... hopefully it won't be much longer until you can trust it as much as you did your TiVo....

As for the Bears....
1) They had an opportunity to win the game

2) In the "Big Picture"... there is such a thing as a good loss.... and this is one of those... as it basically was a 2nd smak in the face to Rex to get his head out of his .... And really let's the Bears know how they fair up with one of the better teams of the AFC

3) Non-Division ; Non-Conference game... and no "long term" injuries... That brake on Junior's arm was just brutal, and pretty much means the end of a carrer

I knew Heroes was on again.

I'll check again for Prison Break.

Junior is a great team player and with Rodney Harrison out, he was awesome for that D. Without him and Rodney - going to be tough.

I have a feeling that the Bears and Pats may meet again some time in February.

Thanks for your help.

I don't agree. I'm having almost daily lock-up issues.
On the flip side...
1 running since August 16th
The other since mid September....

Maybe across the two, I have had 2 lockups that required a restart.. and none with in the last month.

So, yes... there is the possibility that the HR20 can work as promissed and as reliable as you expect it to be.

Is it possible that D* gave you a super machine because you are a mod in here?

I concur, the pattern goes like this, D* releases new code, the release notes state "Multiple Stability Fixes", everyone is optimistic, all systems are now on a fresh start and have had a clean reboot, we have some early reports of lockups unwatchables, or other problems but there is not a critical mass yet so they are sort of discounted as outliers, proclamations are made about how this is the best release yet, a few days go by and then we start to get a bunch of reports of problems, typically, unwatchable, unexplainable canceled programs and interface lockups (same bugs we have seen in every prior release). Somewhere in this cycle there are 3 users who will start posting about how their HR20 has never had a problem and everyones problems are hardware problems and if they just read the manual and fixed their connections we would all have wonderful HR20s, a bunch of people call BS on them. Somewhere along this line someone who had a "perfect" hr20 will announce how this release broke their HR20 and they want to go back to the last version. Some polls are made that ask poorly thought out questions. A collection of theories are produced about what is causing the bugs. Wild-ass guesses start being made telling users that they need to remove their BBC, not use feature X Y or Z, or perhaps they need to sacrifice a chicken to their HR20. The name calling starts. A collection of users will start dreaming of OTA. Proclamations of how great TiVo is or How much TiVo sucks are made, then we get a new version of software and the cycle of life starts anew.

I'm having the same problem with the last update. I also can't pause a live show, then resume. The unit just sits there... paused. The only way out is to change channels, then come back. Of course, the paused content is gone.

Fix something, and break another... this is getting *very* old.

Hehe, me too. Hopefully it will be revenge for our thrashing in '86.

Sorry to those having troubles. As the empty sarcastic comments pile up, I feel like I need to be an additional data point to say mine keeps getting better and better. I've had a freeze up or two and early on, I had about 5 black screen recordings, but my unit has improved with each update and the last two have been really helpful from a trick play standpoint.

Again, I'm not claiming anyone's problems aren't real, but you aren't everyone, just like I'm not.

I agree as mine is running flawlessly except for that darn caller ID bug. But herin lies the frustrations! How come some of us have little or no problems while others are having real major issues?? I truley believe those having problems that their machines are screwing up... but why??? Just like this caller Id which I agree is no big deal but still, why does it work for some and not others?? I know everyone seems to think its a software thing but when you step back and think about it we are all running the same code on differnt individual units, can it be they are from different manufacturing plants?? I don't know just grasping at straws....

Earl:

Have a silly question..
I've had my HR-20 about three months now and it has been rather stable.
It has never "locked-up" but I have reset a couple of times after a SW update and things just don't seem to be just right. It records what I select either manual or Sl without a hitch.

Is there a possibility that some of the boxes have a different little component in them obtained from another supplier that causes certain boxes to be sensative to lockups and missed recordings and others not??

I'm in the Auto Parts business and virtually all manufacturers switch suppliers several times during any given modle year run yielding very different products with the identical name plate tags on them.

Thanks J C
