I received a letter (and email) from DirecTV saying I will soon be losing HD channels because I have the HR10-250 receiver. They want to upgrade me for Free with no commitment.

My problem is my location cannot support the 5-lnb dish; only the current 3-lnb dish. What options do I have???

Who told you the 5 lnb dish won't work? You have a tree between 101 and 110? My installer told me I couldn't use a 5 lnb dish, and left. I installed one myself the next day...works fine.

I would like to know who told you that 9 times out of 10 if a Triple sat will work so will a 5 LNB dish. Get a profesional out there and let them put a 5 lnb dish in there.

probably more like 99 times out of 100 or 999 of 1000. I haven't heard of any not working where a 3LNB does.

I don't want anyone to place the 5-lnb dish on my roof. Since 1998 my dish has been placed on the eave. So I guess its no HD till FiOS arrives early next year.

Has D* announced a date for MPEG2 shutdown?

me me me!

up and to the left was a killer because of my own tree...up and to the right has always been bad because of a neighbors tree

so he went around to the front of my house and it's located about 10 from my front door but i have a big tree so you really cant see it from the street except in winter lol

got all the birds just fine.mostly

sorry, likely story. 3 lnb gets 101,110,119 and the 5 gets those plus 99 and 103. 99 would be the most likely concern, and that not much.

Why are so many people worried about mounting the dish on the roof? All you have to do is coat the mounting bolts and holes with roofing bull and you won't have any leaks. I have had more problems with plumbing vent boots cracking and leaking than I have had with any antennas on my roof.

Ike ripped the dish from my roof and left a sizable hole. I reinstalled my dish friday to the brick on the side of the house should hold up next time.

Many brick homes just have a brick veneer that has occasional clips in the mortar screwed to the real wood framing. One of the first Ike damage pictures I saw was a church missing it's brick veneer on one wall.

Unless you have a real (i.e. no wood, 3+bricks thick) brick home or you're lagging through the bricks into the wood framing, you might find that the wind load on your dish is just helping to pull the brick off your house? (Although I'm not a structural engineer so you may want to first consult with one)

I can understand not wanting to mount the dish on the roof in a hurricane zone (but then again, if you are in the direct path of a devastating hurricane, that may be the least of your worries).

Yes, unless you have a historic home or some very specialized construction (likely in a multi-million dollar home) then it's brick veneer.
