I just received a letter and email from DirecTV to upgrade my equipment so I will not lose my HD channels.

The problem is I get my locals from OTA and don't want to lose them. I am worried they are going to send me a HR21 instead of HR20. Has anyone done this upgrade and been able to get the HR20?

I know there is the AM21, but I keep reading threads about problems with them slowing down the trick play functions.

I recently made this upgrade and haven't had any issues with the AM21 at all. I have both an HR21 and an HR22 hooked up with the AM21. In fact, my OTA reception seems to be doing better than the tuner in my H10-250 or using the TV's ATSC tuner.

Just make sure you don't get charged for anything, including the AM21, if they send an HR21 or HR22. Oh, and make sure they send a multiswitch if you need one! :)

And check the fine print to see if this locks you into a new 2-year contract. That's fine if you're willing to accept it, but if you want the perks and retention offers that come with "free agency," it's something to consider.

If it's the same letter i got, it says in capital letters in the first paragraph,
"NO COMMITMENT".
