If the deal makes sense, look for Liberty Media to buy more companies or form partnerships in the interactive TV space.
Tony Werner, Liberty's CTO, told attendees at the Broadband Communications Europe convention in London that the company may do additional ITV deals to follow up its purchases of OpenTV and Wink. "The interactive TV business is a very good business long-term," he said.
As for the deal Liberty completed earlier in the year for OpenTV and Wink, ITV businesses that were eventually combined, Werner said, "You have a new business that will have lot of euphoria, followed by a good hangover. If you can get in at the hangover phase, you can get the businesses at a good price."
As for Europe, Werner said the company likes the potential offered throughout the continent. "However, it's all based on the deal," Werner said, saying Liberty will continue to look around Europe and elsewhere for businesses that make a good fit at the media company.
