Live PGA Coverage Debuts On The Golf Channel

At long last, the Comcast-owned Golf Channel will begin broadcasting live coverage of select PGA Tour events on Jan. 4 at the Mercedes-Benz Championship in Maui. The 15-year deal, which was announced early last year, for the first time gives the cable network coverage rights at every money stop on the tour.

"These new agreements represent a huge step forward for The Golf Channel and offer fans of PGA TOUR golf a consistent and quality home for a very significant amount of programming," Comcast CEO Brian Roberts said when the PGA agreement was announced. "The Golf Channel has had a great first 10 years, and this dynamic new long-term relationship will take it to the next level in the years to come."

With the agreement, The Golf Channel will provide early-round coverage of all Tour events and full coverage of the first three tournaments of the season -- the Mercedes Championships, the Sony Open, and the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic. Subscribers will also get the Tour's Fall Series in its entirety and prime time re-broadcasts of event coverage on Thursday and Friday nights.

"Adding a very significant PGA TOUR role for The Golf Channel further solidifies the presentation of our sport to the fans," PGA commissioner Tim Finchem said about the agreement. "The Golf Channel has developed at a tremendous rate over only a decade. This agreement provides us the opportunity to work together with The Golf Channel to fully inform our fans about our players, tournaments, sponsors and charity."

Sweet! Now all we need to do is get these dudes in Hi-Def and I'll once again be a hero with my faithful wife and intrepid golfer (low 80's from the men's tees, I make her give me strokes whenever we golf).

Hope the high definition version comes out soon. I have stopped watching
golf if it is not in high definition. Supposedly Comcast is going to start the
high definition channel on 1/31. Now all I need is my multi video provider
to add it to the high def channel to its lineup.

Doesn't that delay your game, John?
Does this mean that stations like TNT and USA won't have Thursday and Friday rounds (of certain prominent tourneys) on anymore?

Yes

LOL. Good one, Nick. In our case, we usually settle up after we leave the links.
