Thanks go out to the person who sent me this. :) (They know who they are)

The below information contains info on new markets, plus IMPORTANT DMA Changes, for some folks who may be eligble for locals today might NOT be eligible for the same channels tommorow. And those not eleigible for locals now might be eligible. You get the idea.

Happy reading thanks for visiting DBSTalk.COM

LOCALS UPDATE

Reno, NV: DISH Network launched local programming from the Reno, NV DMA on September 18, 2002. The service is available for $5.99 a month as all major stations will be carried. Individual stations are not sold a la carte and Reno, NV locals are not available as a Distant Network.

Fresno, CA: Effective September 25, 2002, we will be adding Fresno to our locals’ lineup. At this time, however, we only have agreements with ABC and NBC. If we are unable to deliver CBS and FOX, we will not charge until we are able to carry them. If we only carry three of the big four networks, we will charge $4.99 a month until we make the other network available. Individual stations are not sold a la carte and Fresno locals will not available as a Distant Network.

Harrisburg, PA: Effective September 26, 2002, we will be adding Harrisburg to our locals’ lineup. At this point, however, we do not have an agreement with the Harrisburg CBS station. Therefore, Harrisburg locals will be $4.99 a month until we make CBS available. Individual stations are not sold a la carte and Harrisburg locals will not available as a Distant Network.

Washington D.C.: Effective September 12, 2002, we added the WB Network (WJAL) to the Washington D.C. locals’ package at no additional charge! Locals in Washington D.C. are not available as a Distant Network.

Cleveland, OH: Also effective September 12, 2002, we added the PBS Network (WEAO) to the Cleveland locals’ package at no additional charge! Locals in Cleveland are not available as a Distant Network.

DMA Changes: Each year, before the fall television season begins, Nielsen Media re-evaluates the counties under each DMA. There is typically some adjustment for some markets for local channel eligibility. This year’s adjustment affects 9 DISH Network Locals Markets. The database will be updated to reflect these changes on September 21, 2002. Updated maps for these DMA’s will also be posted to the Retailer Web Site on this date.

Chattanooga DMA will be gaining Chattanooga County GA as it is dropping out of the Atlanta DMA

Glendive DMA will be gaining Fallon County, MT as it is dropping out of the Denver DMA

La Crosee-Eau Claire DMA will be gaining Dunn County, WI as it is dropping out of the Minneapolis DMA

Paducah-Cape Girardeau DMA will be gaining Perry County, MO as it is dropping out of the St. Louis DMA

Oklahoma City DMA will be gaining Okuskee County, OK as it is dropping out of the Tulsa DMA

The Dallas-Ft. Worth DMA will be gaining Anderson County, TX

The Kansas City DMA will be gaining Mercer County, MO

The Minneapolis-St. Paul DMA will be gaining Washburn County, WI

The information about Washington, DC is a bit misleading. WBDC, part of the WB Network, has been grouped with the locals package since it was originally offered. The addition of this channel does not "add the WB Network" since it was already there.

While WJAL is now available, it requires the installation of a second dish to obtain the signal. You can't get it with a regular Dish 500 system. I guess this could be considered the small print.... ;)

Scott,

Do you know if you there were any changes on Knoxville's DMA? I live in Greene Co., TN, about 10 miles outside of the Knoxville DMA. Because of this, I'm not eligible for Knoxville's feeds through DirecTV at this time, and probably won't get my DMA's feeds for at least another year (Tri-Cities, TN/ 92nd DMA). Although D* cannot give me the Knoxville locals, the local cable company (Adelphia) can provide their customers with Knoxville's CBS/ABC feeds, Asheville NC's ABC feed, and all the Tri-Cities locals. VERY unfair double standard in my opinion. Calls/letters to Congressman Bill Jenkins and Senator Bill Frist haven't been very helpful either. The Tri-Cities' local stations have denied my requests for waivers on two occasions.

An adjustment of Knoxville's DMA would probably be my quickest and best hope for getting these feeds. Any info on Knoxville's DMA would be appreicated, and any advice on lobbying for Knoxville locals would be appreciated as well. Thanks!
