Does anyone know when HD locals will be coming to Lexington, KY? I can't get an antenna to pick up all the locals (Fox is a problem). I've asked DirecTV multiple times, but no one can give me a date.

Thanks for any help or information you can provide.

The last I saw, D* does not have any plans this year. What's your location? WDKY is currently broadcasting on VHF channel 4 but they are trying to get that changed. That is the reason I've been using a CM7777 to merge VHF and VHF and it works grat at 60+ miles with attic mount antennas.

Thanks,
Steve

Where in Lex are you?

I am in Hamburg, use a powered Terk antenna from Best Buy. I get all the locals pretty good. Sometimes I have to adjust the antenna, but not too often.

The only thing I don't get is PBS, but then again, do I really care?

Basically, I get Fox and everything is crap, or I get everything else perfectly and I don't get Fox at all. I have a roof-mounted antenna that I thought was pretty good.

I've also tried repeatedly to get a waiver for Fox but had no luck.

Thanks for the responses. I appreciate the input.

WDKY will be much easier to get after the analog cutoff date when they move to UHF 46. Til then you need a big VHF antenna to get them, and hope microwaves, powerlines, any electrical appliances doesn't interfere with their signal too much.

By then we may be carried on DTV though. I keep hoping we are on the current list, they just forgot to publish it. Or we are on the top of the next list.

I too am VERY disappointed that Lexington KY is not on the HD locals expansion list (sigh - yet AGAIN). I live near Dunbar HS, have a large directional antenna (in my attic) pointed directly at WDKY's HD tower and still struggle to get their signal without frequent pixilation and audio drops.

Lexington is pretty highly ranked. I'd be looking at who owns the local stations and try to figure out of that's the problem. WDKY is a Sinclair property, so that explains part of the problem WLEX is a WoldNow property and that's another strike. My recent research has turned this owners up more than once recently among pouting DIRECTV subscribers.

I've written emails today to each of the 4 major network stations asking if they have signed contracts with Directv to carry their station in HD. I politely informed them that off-the-air and cable were not good options for me, and that I am unlikely to watch networks that I do not receive in HD via Directv (true). We'll see if I get any interesting replies.

FYI, while I was trying to track information on Lexington station carriage I noticed these two tidbits: WTVQ-36 is supposed to begin broadcasting local news in HD in November ('08); and both Dish & Directv are supposed to be onsite in Lexington today (Aug. 4) to prepare a (shared ?) uplink station for the 2009 analog to digital switch. This is not the same thing as HD uplink, but it's interesting to me anyway.

Just heard from WKYT--he threw the ball back in Directv's court:

"Direc Tv is maintaining that they do not have the capacity to carry Lexington market stations in HD. We will soon be carried on Dish in HD. Thanks for you interest and we will be sure to share with Direc. Wayne Martin"

I wonder if this was the answer before D11 or since D11 has gone active. I think DTV says they have the capacity for 1500 local HD channels and even with the roll-out of the announced channels, they are nowhere close to that figure.

Recent accountings put the number of deployed HD LIL channels at less than 22% of the promised capacity (higher if everyone counts RSNs which may or may not be on spots) with somewhat less than 66% of the capacity available (based on a note about problems with some D10 spots).

I have a theory that D* is figuring out how to optimize their spotbeams before they decide on their long-term assignment.
