How does D* decide which local channels you receive? Example: I am moving exactly halfway between Austin, TX and San Antonio, TX. Zip code 78070. Can I ask for both Austin and San Antonio locals? Choose between 1 or the other? Or am I stuck with what is given to me?

As with all local channels through the satellite companies, you are stuck with what is given to you. DirecTV and Dish Network are supposed to follow maps that tell the companies exactly what they are supposed to give at a specific place.

go to DIRECTV.COM/LOCAL to find out which one you would get in your county. when i typed in your zip code it gave me a choice of 2 counties; BLANCO and COMAL.

COMAL uses SAN ANTONIO locals
BLANCO uses AUSTIN locals.

BOTH HAVE HD LOCALS

so depending on your county is which locals you would get.
