I lose my local HD channels about the same time every evening for about an hour. I have had DTV out to my home three times and they indicate that my dish is aligned perfectly. When they come out to my home during the day the channels come in strong and work perfectly. I have a H20, 5LNB and SWM8. All other channels including HD work perfectly and the remainder of the day my local HD channels work perfectly. Anyone have any ideas on what the possible problem could be. I need some advice and help since no one at DTV seems to be able to resolve my problem. Thanks

You aren't alone. Posts are beginning to pop up on the forum with the exact same description. It started with the last or next to last version upgrade.

Do you mean an upgrade to the H20 or the service from DTV? If it's the H20 should I change out the receiver?

Weak, or close to failing, LNB's are prone to heat failures. They recover once in the shade or later in the day. I had it happen once, and my brother as well. It was hard for D* to diagnose as they say they never go bad. It is now showing up in the heat of summer.

The software upgrade that is done in the middle of the night. Nothing to do with the hardware. Sometimes it is a software bug that is introduced with a new software upgrade - and there have been a couple version upgrades this month. Before you begin spending any money on hardware or in getting a tech to come out, I would sit tight and see if more of the same problem is posted. In the past two days there have been three (including me) that have posted the exact same problem. Owning up that it is caused by DirecTV is usually the last thing admitted.

Just noticed the same thing on all my H20-100 OTA channels beginning Saturday. Was there a recent national release of the software? I am getting much more pixelization than I did before, which was next to none at all.

Maybe a large bird is nesting on your dish in the evenings? :) Seriously, others have asked about appliances being run at the same time, but how about other D* receivers? Maybe something starting to record on a DVR a that time each night, or another household member is tuning to a particular channel on another receiver? What I am getting at is the possibility of a bad tuner in on of your receivers that is “back talking” on the sat feed and causing a problem on your multiswitch or LNB. Or, you could have a multiswitch or LNB that only fails with certain combinations of satellite usage. Just a thought…

Thanks for all the suggestions and help.

It's a H20-100, brand new 5 LNB Slimline with SWM8 no spliter yet. The odd thing is that it's at the same time every night only with my local HD channels. I thought about the heat issue since it's always around 100+ here but it fails late in the evening around 9:15pm and comes back about an hour later. No other receivers are on that sat. I have another old sat for my SD receivers (Tivo) that I will remove once I fix this problem. I do have a brand new HR21 that I haven't installed yet. I have plans on replacing our old SD Tivo with HD DVR on another TV (that's why I have SW8), but if my wife can't record a show on a local channel at 9pm (don't ask) she'll kill me. So I was trying to resolve the problem before that. I guess I'll have to risk it.
