I have a question that is probably one that has been asked a million times over, so I apologize. I'm near Anchorage (Alaska), and we have our local HDs, but only CBS, Fox and PBS. Our local NBC station offers HD through local cable/phone companies, so why wouldn't we get that with DirecTV? Just wondering - Sunday Night Football would be nice in HD, after watching football in HD for the previous 9 hours!

They have to reach an agreement with them. Most markets have ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox. Some have fewer, some have more. You should contact your local station to ask them to get on satellite. Or, if you can, use an over the air antenna.

This solution - an indoor antenna that is out of sight - cost me sixty bucks at Best Buy and works splendidly. The DirecTV HD DVR adds OTA HD channels to your program guide so you can switch to those channels the way you would switch to any other channel.
