Local High Def Channels Black

887 Views 15 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  jjohns
This has just begun in the last few upgrades. Somewhere between late morning and late afternoon, for the past few months, my DirecTV-provided local HD channels go to black. It’s happened many times now and it only affects the high def channels. If I change my “favorites” to include “all” or “all I get”- in order to get the other call letter local channels that are not high def – those channels come in fine. But early evening they all come back with great HD picture.

For example Philadelphia HD local channel = black screen, not even searching for a satellite. Philadelphia same channel but not high def = good picture but in standard def.

Anyone else having these problems or know what is causing them? It’s happening almost all the time now – late morning to late afternoon – then towards evening I get them all fine.

LNB failure due to heat, resumes after the unit cools later in the day.

Why then can I get the other standard def for the same channel? Only the high def and only local channel high def.

The rest of my high def channels are fine.

Different transponders.

Davring's answer sounds the most reasonable given the time dependency on your problem.
Considering other posters are beginning to complain about the same issue, I suspect the problem is the same "got a new bug with the latest version" or simply a DirecTV transmission problem.
Could you post links to the other posters complaining about this issue? I'm not seeing a large swell of people here complaining of the same issue.
HD and SD locals are going to come off of different satellites, getting one, but not the other is meaningless in diagnosing a problem specific to the HD locals. HD locals come from spot beams on either 99 or 103.

Now, your location is listed as midwest, but I'd hardly consider Philly to be midwest. Are you actually in Philly, or are you trying to get signals on the edge of the spot?

Wouldn't an LNB failure generate some sort of searching error? Could it magically fabricate a black video feed?

When mine started to fail, there was no message, just a blank screen, and signal strenght remained good. Very puzzling to diagnose.
Hmm... so you're saying two people is a groundswell?
if you would rather not be constructive, then please leave the CE program. It is that simple. -Tom Robertson

Give him a break Stewie! I sense quite a bit of sarcasm and get the idea you don't believe them.

If more than one have a problem, it must BE aproblem!

"Considering other posters are beginning to complain about the same issue..."

"A groundswell" are your words - not mine.
You are all correct. I allowed sarcasm to take over and I apologize.

I accept your apology.
