Local OTA broadcasters w/ multiple DTV signals

Good Day,

When over the air broadcasters turn on their digital signal, they are able to broadcast multiple signals.

For example, in the Twin Cities area of MN, the PBS affiliate is broadcasting 7 different channels at the same time.

Any idea if/when Dish will pick up those additional channels, in addition to the primary OTA analog channel, when we go all digital next February?

I'm a Dish customer and am wondering if DTV converters are necessary to get all 7 PBS channels or if Dish will only broadcast the one primary channel come February.

I would imagine this might really tax their satellite bandwidth if they are going to carry each stations multiple signals.

Thanks for your time!

I have strong feelings about this, so don't take this personally.

I hope we won't be seeing those signals. To expect the signal providers (cable and satellite) to quadruple the bandwidth used by locals is totally unreasonable. Satellite providers already have to provide bandwidth for 1200+ SD local channels and are choking on providing HD bandwidth. As I've said elsewhere, there should be East and West feeds of ABC, CBS, Fox, NBC, The CW and MyNetwork morning, daytime, prime time and late night programming. Only for the locals that offer meaningful programming desired by millions should we have to bear the cost of this expansion. What's happening is that in most cases the locals will use services such as the one MGM is offering to fill those extra signals with old programming from their dusty vaults.

Exactly. If you multiply 7 subchannels X 254(?) DMAs you can see how it's not likely they'll add local subchannels.
