So I bought a Harmony 670 a few months ago, and a big reason is that it's easy to use. Especially for my 3 1/2 year old. She knows that when she wants the TV and DVR on, she can hit the "Watch TV" activity button and it turns the TV and DVR on and tunes to the right input.

However with a software update 2 weeks ago, those activity buttons completely broke. I called support and they acknowledged that it was broken, but they hoped to have an update "within a week or two."

Then I get an email about it. And it reads

Dear Customer,

Thank you for your recent inquiry about your Harmony 670

We are sorry to hear that you are experiencing difficulties using your Harmony 670. The issue with the Harmony 670 activity button customization has been logged and addressed within our system.

This issue is scheduled to be fixed in our next comprehensive update. This will allow us to complete full testing and ensure that no other issues are introduced. We do not yet have a release date, as we are still in the process of defining the complete scope of this update. We do not expect this next release to be available any earlier than 8-12 weeks.
8-12 weeks?

I can't think of worse customer service. You break a major function of a device I paid almost $160 for, and won't fix it for 2-3 months? Wow.

Moral of the story : Don't buy Logitech products.

That sucks. I have an old 659 that has been working great for around 3yrs. You would think they could roll you back to the old software until they get the new software working. At least you could use it.
Lack of macro abillity is why my harmony remote is in the bag with the rest of the useless remotes..

I thought that a fix was already put in place, but maybe not for your model. Stop by the Harmony forum at Remote Central, and I'm sure you can get some assistance to see if your issue has indeed been resolved, or if not, if there is a workaround that will help you ...

It's web based so I don't believe there is any way to use an old version.

They definately support macros. You can create any order of custom commands you want, including delays. I use them all the time on my 880 to control a Media Center PC (doing things like moving menus up, down, over, pressing select, etc.)

You might want to look into it again. At its heart it wants you to use it as a web-based "activity" remote, but it will also let you add any custom commands and learning as well.

Well then they should send the OP a working model since they broke it for him. But he probably didn't spend enough for it to warrant that level of service. I'll bet if had the $500 Harmony 1000 things would be different.
I have a 676 that has worked well for me for quite some time and although I sympathize with the OP, I have found Logitech to have pretty good products over the years. At least they acknowledge the problem and planning a fix in the future.
Scott,

Don't let one incident cloud your judgement. Harmony has been great for me for many years. My son dropped our 880 onto the hardwood floor a couple of years ago, when the remote was 2 years old. I called Harmony and they sent me a new one, no questions asked, even though it was out of warranty. I heard about issues with this latest update and while it sucks it could take that long, I'm sure there's a reason why.

How can I not? This is the first Harmony I've bought, and thus, they are 100% in the "screwing me over" department.
Well, I can see your point, but they're actually not "screwing you over", as if they were intentionally doing something to you personally. They had a software problem that I'm sure they're trying to fix. Maybe it will happen sooner, maybe it won't, but I don't think they're not interested in fixing it. For whatever reason, the fix might take awhile. And while that's frustrating, I wouldn't go so far as to never buy one of their products again because of it. In the grand scheme of things, 8-12 weeks of misery is well worth the many years of satisfaction.
BTW, have you tried updating your remote again since then, because I know several people had issues with their Harmony's over at avs and IIRC, all of them were fixed with a new download that was available as of the 15th or so of August.
The problem is with the 600 series remotes. You can't program the Activity Buttons with anything other than their defaults. You're not the only one that is upset that its taking so long for Logitech to remedy the situation. I was setting up my HR21 08/09/08 and found out the hard way the s/w was broken. You're right, the customer support on this one is terrible. Its nothing we did. Logitech's s/w broke one of the major selling points of this remote. As far as macros, the 670 will only handle 5 key presses, so there are a lot of things you can't do with the HR20 or 21. Hopefully the fix will come sooner than later.
Logitech actually usually has very good Customer Support, I wouldn't knock them yet from that one bad experience that in all honesty is bad..but not BAD. At least they are admitting it and working on it.

Many companies are much much worse with this kind of stuff.
I say from personal experience, give them a chance. I have an 880 & 890. I have had nothing but good customer service from Logitech when I had problems with my 880. They shipped a new one to me without any problems. Like it has been said, they are aware of the problem and are working on it, much better than what some other companies do. I do understand your frustration though, I probably would feel the same way.
Its unlike Logitech to hold out on a fix for a uni-remote. I remember all the problems the Harmony 1000 had. The only thing that kept me from returning it right away was their tech forum. It was a great place to find fixes. Maybe looking in there might help you out.
Logitech support was very good when I had a problem with my Harmony One. As it turns out, they had some codes wrong for one of my devices. They bumped me up to level 2 support, and someone entered a ticket to have their database changed and she gave me a workaround.

I've been thrilled with it. When the HDMI device control features didn't work as advertised on my Panasonic plasma and Yamaha soundbar, I bought the Harmony One. It makes life very easy.
Guess I never updated this thread.

Got a call last week from another support person. He "cloned" my acct to a new one and told me to log in with that one and sync. I did and it worked perfectly!
Is there a new moral of the story?

There was a problem with a software update that broke many remotes.
