Unfortunately, I'm going to have a 200 foot run from my Slimline to my HD PVR. Question 1 is, will that work? And quesion 2 is, Does anyone in Seattle know where I can buy decent coax (not steel clad)? Thanks.

I'm using 200' of CCS to my wb6x8, no problems. (and one 80' run of RG59)

Sometimes you can find solid copper RG6 at Lowe's or Home Depot, but it would probably be hard to identify it as such. Use a small but powerful magnet to test the coax. If the magnet attracts to the coax, it is copper clad steel. If it does not attract, it is solid copper. You may have to strip back a bit of the outer insulation to get to the center conductor to do the test.

Ordering on-line will get you higher assurance, but also the additional time for delivery.

Thanks for all the comments. I will take a magnet with me. Unfortunately I cannot have the coax shipped to me and must pick it up, which leaves out all the web based suppliers, and will be in Seattle. I forgot about Lowe's (and Fry's). Keep the ideas coming. Thanks!

You live on an island?

You could have it shipped to you at your place of work.

Also look into electrical supply houses in your area. Some only sell coax by the box/spool (500 or 1000 ft) but many will sell by the foot, so call ahead. They should know what you're talking about when you say "solid copper center conductor", but bring your stripper/pen knife/magnet to double check.

Yes, I live on an island (good guess even if you were only kidding!). No UPS deliveries, incredibly bad mail service, and what seemed like a really cool romantic idea once is now just an inconvenient, annoying life choice. But my wife loves it, so here we are. And every few months I get to go to Seattle and buy what I want, and eat at a real restaurant, and go to a real movie theater.

Actually, I wasn't kidding. More wondering out loud from what you said. I've been to Seattle a few times.

There's a Graybar electrical supply in Seattle. I know they sell Belden cable, all flavors, and most other stuff you might need. Don't know if they sell by the foot or just boxes of 500 and 1000 feet. Use their web site to shop, then call in your order and they'll assemble your order ready for pickup (how it works here anyway).

Graybar is a good choice, I forgot about them. Used to use Radar Electric until they shut down a few years ago. Lived on Vashon Island for a couple of years myself (a loonnggg time ago). I rapidly learned to hate ferry service, and tourists on the ferry's :nono2:

The ferries and highway here are crowded with commuters crossing the island to get to the Kitsap and Olympic peninsulas (we have a bridge at one end of the island). I haven't been on the ferry in months, but need to go to Seattle this afternoon, so will brave the crowds.

Didn't Radar Electric move to Bellevue? There's also a place (I can''t remember the name) near Southcenter Mall which might have a selection of cable.
