As most of you know, times are tough and i am trying to downgrade a little bit to save some money.

Right now I have HBO, Cinemax, my local channels, AT 200 and the orignal HD package (not sure what they would call it now since they have the new Turbo HD, I just know i am paying about $20 a month.)

All i really watch is HD channels, and some of the typical channels that you get in the 100 pack.

Not to sure what i should be looking for and am just here for suggestions.

Do you really need or watch HBO or Cinemax? I started a log of what premiums were DVR'd and then actually watched on the Premium movie channels and as a result once I confirmed nobody was really watching them out they went.

Try it and see what happens. I already had netflix so no loss there.

If you are still paying the $20 per month for HD, $10 is for HD Platinum. You could probably drop that without noticing its gone. Check out the Dish web page here. Every time I think I'm going to do that some show appears on UniversalHD that I could live without, but start watching, or the HDNETMovie channel offers a pre-theater-release sneak preview of a movie I probably could care less about. Frankly, I don't know why I haven't eliminated that extra $10.

I will drop Cinemax once I'm not getting it for a penny. I'd have trouble dropping HBO, not so much for movies but for the series shows.

We just couldn't downgrade to the top 100. We watch shows on AMC, BBCA, FX, Hallmark, etc. But I do compare on the Dish website here using the pulldown menu to sort alphabetically rather than by their definition of categories.

I guess right now I just waiting to see how bad the losses in our portfolio are going to be before trimming, hoping that I can wait to see the options in February.

It all depends on what you watch and of those channels which ones you absolutely can NOT live without. I would prefer more but I go with the AT100 DVR Advantage ($40) with HDBronze ($10) for a total of $50 a month. Plus Cinemax for a penny.

You could always TRY this package and add more later if you find you just have to have more channels. The only issue I think would be if there are TV series on some of the cancelled channels (FX for example is NOT in the 100 package). FX is the only channel I have regularly wished I had (I get this package).

You're right! AT 100 just doesn't have enough for me either.

It is always best to start with the smallest package you think you can live with and work up from there if need be. There is no charge for upgrades only downgrades.

Now that is good advice. Downgrade once and upgrade when it hurts to not have something.
