Went looking in the guide to see what 3D programming was coming up and for channel 103 it now just says "Check back for special 3D events on n3D-only on DIRECTV".

So I wonder what happened, did Panasonic decide to pull the plug on their funding or DIRECTV feel they could use the bandwidth for something else?

not much of a market. Thats why I didnt by a 3D tv....dont think its very feasible for home use...IMHO

I knew this was coming. If the market was appropriate for 3DTV at the consumer level, this wouldn't have happened. ESPN3D is pretty much doing reruns.

3D does have a future, but the timing wasn't right this time around.

So the guide showing nothing on n3D as far out as it goes doesn't mean that they aren't doing 24x7 programming anymore?

I think if they aren't showing anything right now, and it's not a technical issue, then they aren't 24x7 anymore. And I don't think a technical issue would cause that guide data.

Yep, extremely niche technology then and now, and will remain so for many, many years to come. Still tons of folks out there that aren't even on the HD bandwagon yet. Much less 3D.

I've checked out the 3DTV displays at places like Best Buy and although it is a very cool technology, I cannot picture myself wanting to view anything more than a movie every now and then in 3D.

I personally feel it's better suited for a home theater type environment and not everyday viewing, at least at this time.

Well if you're gonna make some flat statement like that, get the years right. 3D has been around since the 1920's, flopped then and every other time it has come into play.

As to the 50's, well it was around 1951 when I saw my first new 3D movie, some scifi thing or another as I recall.

My Vizio came with 3D, not the primary reason I bought it but I have to say I was impressed with the 3D picture quality. Watching NFL in 3D is going to be pretty amazing.

The NBCU press release suggests it will be a "specialty channel" (similar to the dedicated basketball and soccer channels) that will be offered to all MVPDs.

3D on a television hasn't been around since the twenties.

3D itself hasn't flopped, only the technologies used to deliver it in the home haven't lasted.

3D wasn't around in 1958 for TV either...

And yes, it really has flopped, certainly in the home it has. And in theaters the 3D stuff isn't breaking any money making records. Or at least not in the US.

I can't remember what ch 103, n3D, even had. But I can tell you that every once in awhile I enjoy watching 3D content on ESPN 3D and 3net, channels 106 and 107. To be honest, I also think all the fad and gimmick posters here would also enjoy it. Of course I have no way of proving that, and I'd expect them to deny it, but we won't know til they have 3d capable tvs. I expect 3d to be a standard feature in time.

If they took away any of that 3D content I'd be upset.
