I am on the West Coast and have had East/West channels for several years. Several months ago they deleted the East HD Channels. I received a Voice Mail from Directv today advising that they will be deleting my West HD channels because I have HD locals from Directv. I still receive the East/West SD channels. Does anyone know if I will be losing these also?

Man, I don't see how you got both HD and SD E/West. I have always had SD East/West, but they wouldn't give me HD East/West.

I got the same call today. I have HD West Fox & CBS. Denver HD was low power until April when they turned on the new tower on Lookout Mountain. CBS and Fox are O&O in Denver so wavers were not a problem. I guess now they are turning them off since they are available on the satellite.

I think its a terrible shame to lose these. I don't mind paying for them, since I think they are of great value. How else can I get the East Coast news, etc. where I have friends and family.

If people are paying why can't we keep them? We are in the USA right? Does the government have to tells us what we can and can't watch? This law about you can only watch you local stations because of Ad dollars is sad. I think the networks would make a lot more money if they would do this. I would pay 3.00 per channel and I know lots of others also would do that.

I would have to wonder on the timing, because NFL is around the corner.

Yes you are right this in the USA and our Government in this case can tell us what we can and can't watch :raspberry
D* has been very clear about this they would love to give everybody whatever they are willing to pay for, but D* can't ignore the Law no matter how stupid it may be :nono:

My parents get the SD East/West networks and the HD East networks. When they first offered them in HD, they got East and West both but then they took the West off. Why does it really matter if they got the West HD channels too? The whole thing is ridiculous.

The distant networks are the only reason they have kept Directv service all these years. However with Directv's increasing prices, they are considering cancelling it altogether and just going with cable.

The law is there because the networks want you to watch your local stations. There would be no network programming without local stations.

I suppose the system could eventually change to a system of viewers paying for the networks directly. I wouldn't mind paying for networks during football season because that is all I use them for.

Most people would rather keep the system as-is because for some reason they watch local TV and don't want to pay extra for it.

I got the voice-mail yesterday as well. I live on the east coast and was getting east coast (new York) but since they can now provide me with Philly local in HD I guess they have to go. What I used them for was football. No coincidense this is happening just prior to the start of the season either. No way am I gonna pay that ridiculous amount for the Ticket. They can have it.

My so called "local channels" are in Salt Lake City, Utah about 225 miles away. Whether I see the "local" ads will not change my buying habits one bit but I think that is supposed to be the reason we are forced to give up the west coast feeds.

My problem with them is that Fox does not ever broadcast in HD and some of the other stations don't show everything in HD that is available on the west coast feeds.:nono:

I am sure those idiots in congress don't know or care about the effect of their lawmaking on anyone that lives in flyover country!

I too got the call and call in today to "discuss it". Since two of my stations have given me waivers for the west coast feed, I don't see where this is anything BUT the DirecTV "system", and needs to be "tweaked". If you were to get the DNS service because there was no local service and now there is, that could be one thing.
In my case local HD has been here for a couple of years co-existing with my two DNS channels. Nothing has changed [other than the loss of the east coast HD feeds]. DNS is something DirecTV hasn't ever really wanted to deal with. In the past there are a dept. that the customer could call, but today's supervisor "claims" they can no longer transfer call to them, though they still exist [the dept.].
Unless the station revokes the waiver, I don't see a reason for this other than "blanket housekeeping" on DirecTV's part, and so far haven't "heard" any valid reason/excuse for "the call".
