I've noticed lately that I'm getting frequent 771 errors even in good weather on certain channels and when I run the signal strength readings, they're all in the 90s for 99 and 103 but the 101 shows 0 for the even transponders on all receivers. The odd transponders are all all real high.

Do you think it's a bad splitter, connection or LNB?

I don't have the protection plan anymore.:eek2:

Sounds like the LNB but hard to be sure. What kind of dish and switch do you have? Are you on a SWiM system, and if so, is it a separate SWiM module?

Yes, it's a SWM LNB. There are 2 splitters: a 4-way & a 2-way feeding 3 HR24s, a H25 and a CCK. Thanks.
If all your receivers are having the same issue, I think it's probably the LNB at the dish. Time for a service call unless you want to find a SWiM LNB online and try the swap yourself.

I was having a issue yesterday like this one... when i would tune to local channels on my DVR i would get a 771 on tuner 2 there was not a cloud in the sky.... went away after a few minutes and so far(knock on wood) has not returned... i checked to make sure all the connections where tight and im all good there. IIRC, my locals are on the 103 bird.

I have had the same issue start also in the last 5-6 days. Will get the 771 on tuner 2 randomly. Has happened on all receivers, but randomly.
DTV coming out on Sunday to check on things.
It's random in my case too. Comes and goes frequently..

Ok, since late yesterday, i had lost several channels, mainly even number ones on trans 101, like HGTV, History, Discovery, etc... We had a power outage yesterday due weather, so i figured that had something to do with it.

After speaking with a CSR for a while, figured it out by checking the test channels at 9506-9510, that the problem was the BB converter. Changed it out and hooray we have a signal!!!! :hurah:

So, if you have certain channels not showing up, this could be your problem...

That's great that you resolved it. I don't use BBC's.

It's currently out again and if a mod cares to edit it's actually the odd transponders that are out. I don't think it matters diagnostically. Channel 302, for example is showing "searching for satellite signal" on all the receivers.

Well, it is nice to know that we are not alone. We noticed Hallmark getting searching for satellite and when I started looking around, there were several channels with the same problem--notably Discovery, TLC, HGTV, Food. I thought there might have been shift in the dish because of nasty storm the other night or, God forbid, the trees are getting too tall. I guess there is something else causing this. I'm awaiting a service call this week.

If you have an extra on, replace your b band converter on the back of your receiver... If you aren't using one, Directv will send you one for free. This was the reason why i lost those same channels..

I don't know why the B Band converter went out, maybe because of a power surge, but it did happen after storm that caused power outage for a short time.

You only need B-Band Converters if you're on a legacy (non-SWiM) system.

Mikeny, I just wanted to give you an FYI. We've had the same problem with losing some channels. A tech came today and he found the dish out of line. He adjusted it and we are getting great signal strength and all the channels are working like a charm. We also found out that the occasional loss of sound was because of the mis-alignment.
