Faster than setting up an auto-record one time, and then letting it work automatically from now on?
Doesn't work well for sports. Wishlists don't work well for sports either on a Tivo.ad301 said:Faster than setting up an auto-record one time, and then letting it work automatically from now on?
BS. Pure and total BS.bonscott87 said:Doesn't work well for sports. Wishlists don't work well for sports either on a Tivo.
Might want to check the multiple threads on the TivoCommunity all the time about problems. One clear example is if a game is on HDNEt and ESPN and your local Fox Sports channel. It will usually autorecord the lowest channel number. What if that's not the feed you wanted? I could go on but why, there are many threads about it over there.ad301 said:BS. Pure and total BS.
kinda harsh there don't you think?ad301 said:BS. Pure and total BS.
I don't have to do any research. I've been using tivo wishlists for many years to record all the games of my 9 local teams, and they've worked very well indeed. Once set up properly (you must have your Red Wings WL set to record All programs...set it for First run and repeats to eliminate the 3am and 11am repeats), they require only occasional monitoring of the todo list to ensure that the occasional blackout games are correctly set, but that's easily accomplished. Off the top of my head, lets say for the last year's time, I can't recall even one game which has failed to record properly. That's 162*2 + 82*5 + 16*2 = 766 games. All on one stock r10. (BTW, lest anyone think I'm crazy, out of all those games, I probably only actually watched a couple of full games. Mostly I like to have the game available to check out the highlights later, if I so desire. Pretty much a perfect use for a dvr, if you ask me.) On the HD side, one one of my hr10s, I have WLs for all the teams with "HDTV" as one of the search terms. I don't auto-record these, as the box is devoted to network series SPs, and the HD games have been less frequent, so I manually set the games I want when I do a wishlist "view all upcoming programs". Except for the two football teams, which I do record on the hr10, since almost all their games are in HD. These two ARWLs have also performed flawlessly for at least a couple of seasons.bonscott87 said:Anyway, just do some research.![]()
Glad it works for the Red Wings. It hasn't for the Dallas Stars. Between recording the wrong channel and blackouts, I'd say it missed recording about 10%-15% of the games I wanted using a "properly" set up ARWL on my HR10-250.ad301 said:I don't have to do any research. I did mention that you need to occasionally monitor, and correct, the todo list for blackout situations. I have not ever said, nor would I, that ARWLs would record a team's games with 100% accuracy if left alone and not occasionally monitored. If that is your expectation, then yes, you will end up disappointed. If your expectation is to have your teams games automatically scheduled, understanding that occasional adjustments will be necessary due to D*'s guide data, then WLs can work very well. That's my whole point. I believe that to state "Wishlists don't work well for sports either on a Tivo" is erroneous. As I noted above, they have worked very well for me for years.axiom said:Glad it works for the Red Wings. It hasn't for the Dallas Stars. Only manually updating the to do list makes sure I'd get all the games.
OK, I understand where you're coming from. That "First run only" setting IS counter-intuitive for sports events, and until you discover that, it can make WLs misbehave. There have been a few guys over at TCF with whom I've conversed via PM to try to help get them set up correctly, and that one setting usually does the trick. BTW, I'm not sure, but it may also apply to the r15/hr20. If anyone is having problems, they may want to try that.bonscott87 said:Fair enough. Autorecord wishlists never really worked right for me (with first run only) so I just found it easier to use it as a "canned search" I'd check on once a week or so for 5 minutes and setup my games. No biggy. Sounds like even with a wishlist that works well you still have to manually babysit it a bit.
Fair enough back at you. Sometimes I get carried away.bonscott87 said:Anyway, this thread was simply my observation of how easy it is to use the search function on the HR20 and pick and choose your programs in less then a minute. That's all. Sorry it degenerated into something else.
