I have Mad Men set to record the series on my DirecTv DVR, but I don't have it set as the highest priority because it airs multiple times per week. So, the first airing of the episode on Sunday is not scheduled to record because there are two other network shows recording at the same time with higher priorities. However, the same episode of Mad Men airs a couple more times Sunday night and many more times during the week...and none of them are scheduled to record, and none of them conflict with other recordings.

Why won't it automatically record one of the other airings later in the week?

Have you set it to record all or just first run?
If first run the unit may think the airings later in the week are repeats and won't record them.

What does the Recording History show?

If a sl is set to first run and a show was missed due to conflict it will pick up the next airing even if it says repeat.

Don't do anything right now. When is the last airing of the episode. Wait til then before you do anything, I'll bet it records it before then on its own.. :)
