Made the switch and I'm impressed!

Yesterday I had D* installed at my house to replace my Comcast TV (kept their internet). I got the HR34 and one H25. Installer did a great job with the dish and all the wiring -- very neatly done and professional looking.

Granted, I haven't used the system much and am bound to encounter some issues but here are the things that have impressed me the most so far.

The HD picture is truly outstanding. I was very pleased with Comcast's HD and didn't know if I'd be able to tell much difference - yes, I can!

The remote control and GUI absolutely blow Comcast's user interface out of the water. Even the old blue interface on the HR34 is a huge improvement over Comcast -- and the new GUI on the H25 is stunning! I can't see why anyone would complain about the new one.

I'm glad to have found this site and look forward to learning all the tips and tricks to me newly upgraded TV experience.

Welcome to the club and enjoy! :)
Congrats! Recently switched from FiOS TV (kept their awesome Internet)!
Welcome..
As an installer myself, I am glad yours did a good job. Yes, the HD on Directv is really good. I have had several cable customers where I live comment on that when I tune in HD channels after activating.

One thing that was odd to me...the installer told me that as soon as he turned it on I would be able to tell a difference. When he did, he said "What do you think?" I said it looked good even though something didn't seem right. After he left the room I picked up the remote, hit the format button and realized the receiver was set to 480i!!!!!!!!! After changing it to 1080i, then I could see how great the picture was.

I would have thought an installer would have known to change resolutions from SD to HD as the very first thing.

Dark side?

I too think D* is great. I previously had Dish.

Same thing with my installer .. good job with dish, wiring, etc but HD receiver set for 480p and my 3 other SD receivers were not programmed for the remotes.

Even worse ..... my free installation ended with a $380 billing charge. It was the D* partner not D*. D* straighten it out as soon as I called them and I've been pleased ever since.
Welcome to the site and glad you are enjoying your new toys. Lots of members here with years of experience with DirecTV so ask away.
