Hey guys,
First post but long time lurker! I've had the HR10-250 for quite a while now and the past few days it has been acting up and I think it's on it's last legs. It's served me well and I am now ready to jump to the HR20-700S.

What are some of the deals out now and how much should I expect to pay out of pocket? I'm currently a "Total Choice Premier" subscriber and have 1 Hughes HD receiver and 1 HR10-250 in the household. I've been with Directv for about 2 1/2 years so what kind of leverage do I have with retentions or with the upgrade dept.

I know that I need to upgrade to the new dish, I also have an OTA antenna, will that help with the HR20? Any kind of suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks guys!

Thought I had the HR20, but it's th H10-250. I would definitely like to get the HR20 now that I see what's coming in 2007, but I'd like to do my homework first. Somehow I don't think it's as simple as going on to Ebay and buying the HR20 for $99. Especially since I paid 3 times that for the H10-250 almost 8 months ago. Hope it is that easy, but not holding my breath

Where did you buy your HR20 and for how much?

Any advice is appreciated.

HR20 and then there's the HR20-700S HD DVR box...it's of course $299. Nice. I really don't want to buy that box. That sucks. Guess I'll wait till D* begins broadcasting MPEG-4 HD and an electrical storm might hit my power supply. :eek2:

Jdizzle,

I am not sure what type of customer you are with Direct. But, if you are an "A" customer call their retention line. In the last month I got a H20 and an HR20 for no charge including install. You have to insist and I guess get the right csr. The reason I got the H20 free. Was that I was told my Hughes HD receiver that I payed $400 for a couple of years ago will be obsolete once everything goes to mpeg-4. And I said it wasn't right that it would be useless. With the HDdvr I said that I am being contacted constantly by my local cable company who is offering it for free to me.

Cool,
That is the route I'm probably gonna go with. Everytime I call CS I'm told that I'm an "A" customer also. I'm pretty much in the same boat as you in that I'm just replacing a Hughes HD receiver and the Hr-10-250. Thanks for the help.

Directv customer since 08/1997. Not in a hurry to get the new HR20 due to fact that I like my HR 10-250 and do not need locals. I called up today to inquire about another matter and for curiosity I inquired about what deal I could get on the new receiver. I explained to them that I really don't need the HR20 and in fact once it's installed if I don't like it I will disconnect it, reconnect the HR10-250 and keep it in the closet until I need it possibly later this year. No haggling was needed I was just upfront with them. To make a long story short ( I know too late) they offered my a free HR20, free 5 lnb dish and free Hd packaging for 1 year . For that price I decided to make the deal. The receiver and dish will be installed later this month. Once again, if I do not like the HR20 or if I run into any problems, I will reconncet the HR10-250 which does work with the 5 lnb dish and I will only be charged $4.99 for the extra HR20 receiver. A price I am willing to incur knowing I also save $120/ year on my HD packaging. I wanted to share my experience with others so they too can try and get a similar deal. GOOD LUCK!
