Recent DirecTivo to HR20 conversion. Lots of problems on top of the general transition issues I expected. The latest...

Though shows are marked "keep until delete", they're getting written over. Setting a season pass (series link?) for Law & Order (which is on about 500 times a day), all I want is 3 episodes and I don't want it to keep recording.

Am I doing something wrong or is this a HR20 bug/issue? I know I have HR20-700 (x0254?).

Not to whine too much but, I've had Samsung DirecTivo for the past 5 years without a single problem. Not off to a good start with the HR20 and all the threads seen on this forum aren't giving a warm fuzzy feeling. I like having HD but sure wish I had my Tivo reliability back.

Thanks for any help. Tried "search" but didn't see anything.

Sorry thats the way the HR2x series work. If you've got it set to only keep 3 and record any showing it will record every one it finds and keep the 3 newest recordings. It doesn't stop recording once it has 3. There have been discussions of which is the more accurate behavior when given what amount conflicting instructions to the unit but this is the behavior the HR2x's have.

So there's no way to save something that's part of a Series Link, unless the disk is actually full?
While in the playlist, highlight the show you want to keep and press the blue button on the remote. This will mark the program to keep.

If you just use the SL settings, you have 2 options: Keep until disk is full and Keep until I delete

However, if you choose any number of episodes to keep less than "all", in your case 3, then the recorder will only keep 3 episodes and as new episodes appear to be recorded, it will overwrite the oldest recording.

If you use the blue button to mark a recording to keep, then that recording will remain and you will still record 3 in addition to whatever you mark with the blue button, but the oldest non-marked recording will be overwritten.

I switched from the Tivo HR10-250 about 10 months ago. Part of your current problem is just learning how the units work differently from each other. I would recommend the survival guides here.

Keep in mind that many, many users don't experience the constant and difficult problems that you are reading about here. Outside of a few minor issues in some past national releases of the firmware I've never had a significant problem. And many others haven't either. Chances are neither will you. The issue you ask about here isn't a bug but just a difference from what you are used to.

Many folks here are discussing the problems they are experiencing in order to find potential solutions and in the hope that DirecTV will pay attention and fix them. There's a good chance you'll never have most of the problems going on here.

The HR20/21 are generally good devices that when working properly are fantastic. Once you learn your way around the system you'll probably love it.

Probably my biggest complaint with the HR series.

Please visit the wish list and make sure to vote for giving us more options on setting series links. Many items on the wish list have been addressed, let's keep the pressure on.

Ok, maybe I'm missing something (probably) but above statement doesn't seem right to me.

My SL is set to "keep" and when viewing individual episodes in List they all have the circle-K. Pressing the blue button just toggles that K off and on. Whether they're marked K or not, they're going to keep getting written over until the disk is full. Right???

Hope I am, indeed, missing something here. The light bulb just isn't coming on. Sounds like the proposed wishlist function is the only answer.

As a broader comment, I don't doubt that most of my frustration is a matter of differences much more than better or worse. That's the wonderful thing about this forum and I appreciate all the tips.

Even though there are not two different K's, the K applied by a series link acts differntly than one applied by a one off recording or one you apply after a recording is made.

The K for series links only means that the show will not be deleted for disk space, but will be deleted for another show in the series. Also, it does no good to toggle the K that was placed by a series link.
