Hi guys, I may be returning to Dish after being with Directv for the past 4 or 5 years. The idea that the Pac 12 Network is engaged in serious negotiation with Dish will make me move.

So that said, am I going to run into any issues with respect to promotions and being a former customer (4 or 5 years ago, I can't recall the exact month)? Or am I considered a new customer at this point? If not, am I going to run into any obstacles on using my wife as the customer?

Did Dish do away with the phone line charge for not having the line hooked up all the time to the receiver?

How is this new multi-room DVR. Is it functionally good? Am I going to need to go through any re-wiring from my Directv setup? I hope not.

What's the best package these days? I am more sports based so what's best? I noted that ESPNU does not appear to be in HD on Dish...is that correct?

How is this slingshot thing added to the account working?

Any other advice coming back on setup, etc.?

There has been no headway lately on Pac 12 Network and Big Ten Network may be gone as well. You would be considered "new" after 90 days, only hurdles would be credit rating since those who post here would have no way of checking it and if you left Dish and still owed them money.
The receivers no longer need to be connected to the phone line, Dish charges more for dual tuner receivers whether you hook up the phone line/dsl or not. Wiring for the Hopper would be slightly different than Direct TV, but some of the line could be used. As far as sports, Direct tv would have more than Dish in most cases, AT250 would give you all the National sport channels, Multi Sports would give you some possible additional college game and NFL Red Zone and no ESPN U in HD yet.
The Sling Adaptor is usable by most smart phones, you would need to check with Dish or i-tunes for available apps. I'm sure other will chime in with their thoughts. Good Luck.

As of lunch time Pac 12 posted the deal with Dish was proceeding. Then now at dinner time Dish has backtracked according to Pac 12 site. So more of the same.

If I am new after 90 days I am golden. I don't owe Dish or anyone money. Pay bills and deal with them, so completely in the clear there.

If sports are really that important, another thing to keep in mind is that Dish does not offer full-time regional sports networks in HD. Because of this you may end of having some MLB/NBA/NHL and college sports shown in SD only at times.

You can compare the AT packages at http://www.dish.com/entertainment/packages/. It also tells you which channels are in HD.
